Standard Power zetec

owkee I have a few question:

Is it possible to chance the air intake system of a standard 1.8 zetec because if you replace the standard system by an airfilter where do you mount the air mass meter?

Is it a good idea to install 2.0 zetec 130bhp cams. The computer can cope with these differences?

The air mass meter and all of the ducting are part of the problem. They are quite restrictive and I think the first step to getting more power out of it would be to remove them, TBH.

Any changes will probably give you problems with a stock ECU. At best it might see the increased airflow and give you more fuel up to a point but will the system have enough adjustment to cope? If it adjusts to the "steady state" fuelling requirements it will almost certainly get the transient fuelling wrong so throttle response would become poor and in the worst case it'll run dangerously lean and damage the engine. You might be able to source an ECU and injection system from an engine with the 130 cams (I think this was used in production) but you still have the restrictive intake setup.

TBH I think if you're going to the trouble of changing the cams you need to fit independant throttle bodies or Weber carbs. That really will transform it.

As an idea, I think some of the chaps on here through the factory, put together a throttle body kit for the 1.8 madness kits. THis was a set of jenveys, all the wires and pipes and the all important ECU upgrade.

I have no idea what you are running, or how suitable this will be, but it would be worth a call to establish if yours could use the same kit and if it is still available?

If it were me I would start with the Fule injection/carbs and ecu, then wory about cams, or save up and do it all in one go over the winter........and spring and probably some of the summer as well?

I would recommend the factory TB kit, it comes with all the bits you will need as said above, and is pretty straight forward to fit. I think you must budget for a rolling road setup afterwards, to get the best from the kit though.   ;)

I also put in the 2.0l cams. I think if you can, it's worth doing both at the same time.   :t-up:  :t-up:

Before I  felt that the car, fun as it was, didn't seem as fast as I was hoping. Fitting the TB's and cams transformed it, it now feels like it's 'right', theres more power, and it's a lot better to drive. So much so that I don't feel any need to try and up the power any more, I'm free to spend my upgrade budget on the handling and suspension etc....  Or pay my mortgage...  :D

If you contact the factory, they'll be able to tell you exactly what you need, and supply the whole kit, making it all a lot easier and quicker than trying to source different parts from various sources, and if you are concerned with any warranty issues, fitting the WF parts will ensure it remains valid.

And, of course it looks far more

Thanks Mat this is just what I'm looking for. I gone mail Westfield to see what the kit costs and then it's time to save ;-)

Maybe get another bulk buy on the go ?

MAT 1800 does the airfilter stays inside the hood or do you have to make a holl in the bonnet?

If you've got any more imformation on the throttle bodies kit supplied from westfield I'd be interested in seeing it also.

Thanks

Hello,

Yes, the air filter does stay inside the bonnet.

The Best place for info on these kits would be the Factory, a few of us recently got these kits and they included everything to convert a WF standard 'madness kit' zetec to TB's.   :t-up:

The boddies, air filter, fuel reg etc etc, all come from WF bolted together, it was a simple job to pullout the old intake system, bolt up the TB's. Attatch the fuel feed and return, then the new section of the loom (ignition Loom).  And it was all sorted !!

The actuall install should only take a couple of hours, however you do need to take the car for a rolling road session to get it mapped propperly after installing the kit. WF will take your ECU from you (if its the right type) and reprogram it, to put a base map on. However who wants to run their car on a 'base map'    get it mapped after and you'll be making the most of the kit.   ;)

I bought a set of 2.OL cams from a fellow member and got the garage to throw them in before they rolling roaded the car adn re-mapped it. I presume WF could supply the cams, or get them from a scrappie ?  ???

It's not a cheap bit of kit, but well worth it IMO.    :D   If you want an install which will transform the car and the way it drives this is it...  :t-up:  :t-up:
