Guest
What does the WSCC offer anyone in the South??? When was the last WSCC trackday in the South? SS events down South are almost dissapeared. I know there's Detling, but that voluntary organised. Stoneleigh is open to any Tom, Dick and Harry, ok the club put up a tent, but it's still in the Midlands. C2C and area meets are voluntary organised and nowhere near Watford. Can't understand the attraction about Curborough and how anyone can say it is good for track day virgins or trackday sessions, shows they have got a small expectation of motorsport. I joined to sell parts of my car and get regulary thrown tomatoes at Unfortunately, it as said above offers me nothing, so shan't renew. Committee ......... now there is actually an interesting point , the surrey group do organise runs etc down in the south ans steve richards and John cobb have tried to raise things with breakfast runs etc , but these are off their own back and not always as well attended as they had hoped sometimes , but maybe the club could look to raise the profile in the south . Also maybe it could raise the profile of the barc race series i am sure many members no nothing about it , Ian why not try and publises your semsec activities a little more . Its all to easy to knock something and maybe we should all take the oppertunity to make this something more positive . Damm it i think i may even send a membership cheque now and see what as a member i can do to make things better.........
conibear
It's 'not having a dig at the WSCC when everyone else is' syndrome, but I find it annoying reading the same sort of negative comments time and time again, also how good things are within this club. They probably are but it is regional. The "what does the WSCC do for the South" has been debated many times, but nothing changes. I've mentioned racing at Semsec and motorsport in general, but this site is better setup for roadgoing activities IMHO. This forum has it's benefits to many, thats what the internet is for offering information and I like that, but the club charge has no benefit to me. But that is just me, to many others in different regions it will have a significant benefit.

Have you ever been to the WSCC Curborough weekend? The attraction (for me) is to get a load of Westfields and their owners together and have a laugh. I'm not the worlds biggest party animal by a long stretch, but even I enjoy the 'craic' at Curborough. Curborough's track day was useful to me on two levels. Firstly, it was a good chance to get to know the track (free I hasten to add) the day before my first sprint there. Also I had the opportunity of both being a passenger with an experienced sprinter, and also taking him round the track. His insight and comments into my driving style and lines etc. were very useful to me. I guess it's horses for courses... Andy

Not having a go at anything in particular, but I wonder if the people who are being negative about the WSCC have done anything themselves to make it better? A club like this is only as good as its members IMO. Andy

I'm not sure i'd agree with that. We have seen complaints that the WSCC is biased towards competition... I personally thing the boardroom strikes a good balance between road users and track users. There's plenty of information and discussion on here about both aspects of owning a Westfield. Andy

Curborough track session not good for virgins? Why not? Low expectation of MotorSport? What's that supposed to me?
Al Yupright
Its a cr@ppy go kart circuit A beginners event at an airfield would be a much better introduction if you ask me.

A club like this is only as good as its members IMO. Andy I have organised plenty of group activities I just don't limit them to WSCC members or do it in the name of the Club. I am happy to help anyone who shares my common interest, not just people who want to send a cheques in. All this stuff about libility insurance etc, you guys worry too much I still have not been convinced that the conventional owners club model is not outdated !!! Which was my original question. One thing I will say is that in general this is a good forum to talk about Westfields. For me its the only thing that the club provides that I am interested in. And before anyone else says it, the things I want to do that the the club does not organise, I do organise myself. Cheers Bazzer PS I was hoping to see my rating plumet further before they were removed
adhawkins
A beginners event at an airfield would be a much better introduction if you ask me. Almost certainly. However, cost (to the Club) has to be considered. Over the years I've been going to Curborough, the cost per couple of laps at Curborough has dropped from a few quid donation to charity, down to naff all. The club do arrange track days (Mallory for example) but the amount of organisation that goes into these events is not inconsequential. Oh, and while I remember, the point has been made about the C2C, area meets etc. being organised by volunteers. How much do people think the Committee get paid? Over the years I've been going to Curborough, the cost per couple of laps at Curborough has dropped from a few quid donation to charity, down to naff all. You'd have had to pay me to get me to trailer my car up there just to do a couple of laps of curborough All this stuff about cost to the club and club subsidising events. It would pee me off if I was paying into the club and my money was always being used to subsidise events that I wasnt interested in (eg the SS). Same at work, I pay 75p a month into our "Sports & Social club" and they subsidise events. But I get it back through go-karting, xmas parties etc. If they provided no events for me, I wouldnt be happy paying my 75p a month!! The club's accounts summary is freely available to all club members by attending the AGM (and I think it gets published in Westfield World too). I don't think that the Club subsidises the Speed Series (although someone else might correct me on this). Andy
Al Yupright
Ok, I just recall earlier in this thread it being said that the speed series and the curborough weekends were benefits of paying to be a member and were subsidised from the membership fees. And also stuff saying that the curborough weekend is a great introduction to trackdays. I would strongly disagree with that. But like you say I'm sure the social aspect of it is fantastic. If club trackdays are a lot of hassle to organise I'm sure one of the trackday organisers would take it all on and run it from their website. I've seen them do it for many other owners clubs. Might even offer discounts in order to encourage new trackdayers to remain loyal to their company. Anyway, on the basis of "if you cant say anything nice, dont say anything at all" I shall shutup now

Our AO tried to arrange an 'exclusive' track day at one of the local airfields. Despite numerous people saying they'd be up for it, when it came down to parting with their cash, only about half of the required people did. As a result, it's not difficult to get the TDO to do the same thing again... However, I know BAT do this (there was a Sevens only track day at Ty Croes over Easter), so it must be possible...it's just guaranteeing that we'll be able to fill it.
