Don’t take this the wrong way as it is a genuine question but what does an organised club you have to pay for deliver above and beyond this?

Westfield World.

Speed Series

Stand at Stoneleigh

Umpteen social gatherings

Coast2Coast

Curborough weekend

Track days

Area meets

To name but a few...

Andy i can name several clubs who do most of the above (speed series excluded) without a single penny in membership ??

what bazzer is saying is you get access to all of the above except a mag for 25 quid or whatever it is ??? and its not worth 25 quid for the mag alone is it? i dunno it might be a really good mag .

Speed series, how many members actualy compete and you could enter somthing like the Southern Speed series or the equivalent series in your region.

Anyone can go to Stoneleigh !!!

BEC list has lots of Socials; quite often have a curry with the chaps.

Coast2Coast Yep but its only a small percentage of members that do this.

Curborough Weekend, how many people attend?

Track days, I do loads of them without any clubs.

Area meets see social gatherings.

Can you name some more then  :D:D  :D  :D

Don’t want to feel I am knocking the club and if it works for people then great. But I still kind of think my initial statement about owners clubs being irrelevant in the Internet age has not been disproved.

I'm confused Bazzer, are you a WSCC Member or not? Your profile says you are...

If so, why do you pay 25 quid a year? ???

Are you kidding?

Tell me where you can find a club with an A4 glossy mag every 2 months, cheap track days, a calendar every Christmas, the Coast2Coast, Le Mans trips, monthly meetings at areas all over the country, representation at all the bigger kit car shows - including exclusive parking areas at most - Merchandising - and what must be one of the best web site forums in the business.   Plus of course one of the better Sprint series, which is respected nationwide?

Do you seriously think just joining a Yahoo forum will give you as much for free?

As someone who gives up a lot of spare time for the benefit of club members, I think comments like that are just a little irksome!

Regarding advertising, I feel that someone who advertises here gains a commercial benefit as a result.   Club membership pays for that privilege, where on earth is the controversy in that?   This forum is a WSCC forum for - principally - the benefit of it's members.   It allows non members to post, and acts as a flagship for the club.   Anyone who hasn't paid a subscription should consider him/herself to be here as a guest, nothing more.

Why do you feel guests in any closed club should have all the benefits of full membership?

Andy

I have just always joined owners clubs for the cars I have had, TVR, Cobra etc

Track days was one of the main advantages of the TVR club years back. But now its just as easy to book them with TDO's

There is one thing I can think of and it goes back to the speed series, even if you don't want to enter that particular series you have to be a member of an MSA motor club to enter other events to it might as well be a club that is relevant to your car.

I was just thinking about what people were saying and wondering why I do ? I think in the past it was the only way to get info and contact people.

Don't get me wrong I like the people in the WSCC just thinking out loud really.

It's OK saying that you can 'do' these things but in a lot of cases the power of the 'club' can allow for discounted rates. Track days for example. Yes, the BEC list can do the same but club activities are subsidised from members fees. Even if this only covers the cost of Liability insurance, as is the case with Coast2Coast it's still a benefit and quite a big one, just not very obvious.

We have a large stand at Stoneleigh which allows for social gathering and collective parking, as well as being a focal point to show off your motor. That's not just about attending the show.

The Curborough weekend is attended quite well (depending on the weather) and the track session on the Saturday is to my mind THE best way to introduce newbie Westfield Owners and Track Day virgins to a track session. You just can't do that in the 'group of friends' club.

I see both sides of the argument very clearly as I am an active participant in one of the best known 'internet only' groups. I also know that some of the 'events' put on under that guise are seriously at risk from legislation. Hopefully, and it's by no means certain, the WSCC type club will be able to rise above current and future legislation.

Shutting up now :)

not picking because i will get shouted at for balancing things up but your statement about groups of friends and getting into track days is actually wrong.

its actually how track days started way back when it was groups of friends hiring circuits .

however costs have now risen and doing that rarely happens now but there are place that it still does , and paying for Curborough and places like it is still done .

the comment was more to show how the whole trackday scene started rather than knocking the wscc weekend at Curborough

what Bazzer is saying times have changed , legislation has also changed and will continue to make motor clubs and the like shift in the way they are run.

The purpose of my post was not to offend anyone and I am sorry you find it irksome.

I am sure you do put an awfull lot of work in and I am sure there are people who benefit from it. I am not questioning the fact that you and people like you very kindly give up your time.

But I do have to dissagree with you about the Yahoo BEC list. I have got FAR more out of being a member of that than I have of the WSCC. I obviously want different things to a lot of people.

I have also aranged things for the BEC list, group buys etc, loaned tools, fielded telephone calls to desperate people at 10pm when they have SVA the next day.

But I Don't sprint , I have a huge group of friends that I have been going to Le Mans with for 10 years. I do loads of trackdays with companies that provide a great service. I also find kit car shows a little boring now. As for advertising I agree the club can do what it likes, but I am convinced the current policy benefits members as much as it could (Guests not posting Cars wanted for instance)

So I guess I have answered my own question  :D  :D  :D

Bet my rating will take a dive now  :<img src=:'>

You get a pen, car sticker and a membership card too!.

The membership card has many benefits including allowing other Westfield owners to take your kidneys, even if you are not dead.

This has never happened to date though because most peoples kidneys are in a very poor state.

Si - you should come along to the teesside trackday, although its perhaps not ideal for trackday newbies, all the newbies from the last one are coming this time, so hopefully that says something.  In terms of cost, its cheaper than any wscc trackday, has more tracktime and is local

as a devoted member of the se7ens.net community, being subscribed to se7ens, tour7 and ne7ers, all of which is free I have got far more from them than I have wscc.

from se7ens I have had as much tech suport as here.  from tour7 I have taken part in four tours, and organised another, from ne7ers I have some great se7ening mates local to me who I go blatting with and organise trackdays with (booking the whole track).

I like the wscc, enjoy the club meets, and i enjoy the banter here.  I just think there is more to se7en ownership than the wscc.

What does the WSCC offer anyone in the South??????

When was the last WSCC trackday in the South?

SS events down South are almost dissapeared.

I know there's Detling, but that voluntary organised.

Stoneleigh is open to any Tom, Dick and Harry, ok the club put up a tent, but it's still in the Midlands.

C2C and area meets are voluntary organised and nowhere near Watford.

Can't understand the attraction about Curborough and how anyone can say it is good for track day virgins or trackday sessions, shows they have got a small expectation of motorsport.

I joined to sell parts of my car and get regulary thrown tomatoes at :p  Unfortunately, it as said above offers me nothing, so shan't renew.
