What are the best brake pads?

I replaced the M16 callipers with some 4 pots a few years back.  I found the 1144s that came with the callipers disappointing, so replaced them with EBC Green Stuff last year, as I'd used that in the M16s with good results.  It was no better.  Due to the very limited mileage, I'm wondering if neither sets ever bedded in properly.  The car is used mainly for hillclimbs (it hasn't stopped raining since I built it), and I think the EBCs give a little more confidence, but its still a very heavy pedal.

What were the 4 pots you replaced the M16's with? Some four pots actually less *less* braking power than M16's...

Hi, I have a Westy narrow with westfield rear independant escort back end.

I'm looking to improve the Front Brakes, I currently have standard front solid discs and standard pads.

I will get the Mintex 1144 pads...

But Any recommendations on Discs?

Plays kool have 4 choices:-

Drilled

Drilled and grooved

Grooved

Grooved and dimpled

What are the best.?, or any better choices.

For fast road use

I have plain discs on mine, HiSpec 4 pots and Mintex 1144s.  Stops on a sixpence from cold.  Previous owner experimented with drilled and grooved options and went back to the plains.  Squeal horribly when creeping downhill in town but I don't care

Drilled and grooved lightens the discs and helps avoid glazing

sorry guys just been reading this and had a couple of questions....

I have run Ferodo 1.11s for years on my renault and I was going to put them in the westie too,  or worse case put in some Ferodo 3000s

I used to use the 2500s a couple of times around 6 years ago but found they lasted less than 2 days in a race car.

Now I know that the westies are a lot lighter on pads but mine will go on track for some of the nicer days and I want really good pads for the road as well.

can any of you guys that track your westies hard let me know what pads you find work best.

I have just changed over the tyres to R888r's and i am working through a series of upgrades to prep it for some track work.

I run DS2500s all round, but have changed to ds uno front, ds2500s rear - yet to test them

DS2500s lasted me ages and im fairly hard on the brakes.

In the case of mixed use (road and a few trackdays a year) why not put proper track pads for the trackdays (DS 1.11, 3000 etc) and for the road - proper road pads ?

I found DS series pads (3000, Uno) dont like road use especcialy when the car is used only on weekends, standing all the other days (especialy wet) - those pads rust quickly and tend to stick to disc. Better to put them in the box after trackday and switch with road pads in the calipers.

As for the track such set of pads in Westfield will last almost forever. It is lightweight and it is not the FWD which does all the braking by the front brakes.

As for the chosing the compound - I currently use DS1.11 both front and rear and will not look at other pads in future. Can block the soft warm slick tyres , did not experienced any fading (solid small disc) . Did only 6 trackdays with those pads (500-600km of track only), no considerable wear.

I run ds1 11 front and 2500 rear on the renault but that is quite hard on front brakes. The rears don't do much. It has a Reylands on the front.

Thanks for the feedback and will give George a shout and get some pads delivered
