adhawkins
My Zetec engined Westfield never seems to get fully up to temperature during normal driving. Why is this?
steppenwolf
Although Westfield have now changed the way the cooling system is connected up in Zetec installations, some earlier versions suffered from 'over-cooling'. The main reason for this is that in the original installation, the bypass pipe from the thermostat housing that is installed to allow some coolant to flow, even though the thermostat is closed, transfers coolant to the top hose of the radiator - this means that the coolant is cooled by the radiator before it re-enters the engine block jacket so it takes a longer time than normal for the engine to warm up. Modifying the bypass pipe so that it transfers coolant to the bottom hose ensures that it re-enters the engine block jacket without being cooled so the engine warms up faster. An explanation of the alterations required to the cooling system can be found here
