alan dixon Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 This seems the place to go for Cheesey cars NASCAR's wine and cheese circuit Quote
DanB Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Hey, crashing Furies is my specialised subject. Mind you Tim (www.hoverd.org) is doing a pretty good job at bending his repeatedly. Funnily enough, his car seems to display little in the way of dairy-product attributes, having taken quite a few hefty knocks and come back for more... Quote
chappers Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Fisher sportscars is just down the road from me. The Fisher fury is a great little car, and perfectly capable, as my trip to Lydden this weekend showed - they are just as capable as a westy on the track. I'd have one, though I'd want it to be properly trimmed, as their open day showed that quite a few of the bike engined cars had obvious motorcycle controls straight off the bike, rather than having them replaced with proper dials/controls more suited to a car. I especially don't like the bicycle computers. As for looks, then the Pheonix might just sway it for me at the moment, but as soon as I want something a bit more practical than a westy, then both would definitely be on my shortlist. Quote
scruffythefirst Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Mind you Tim (www.hoverd.org) is doing a pretty good job at bending his repeatedly I've been folowing that saga too Tis always a good read, and it was his site that persuaded me to get a Dax Quote
I.S.M Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 oioi I apologise if i offended you - i atleast usually prefer to meet someone before i start with that! The comment comes from watching 3 now break apart at nothing above normal race conditions (i.e. non contact). The 3 in question i have studied closely and even helped spend that best part of 30 hours welding in kg's worth of bracing outside of the fury workshop. The chassis leaves alot to be desired - and that is a qualified opinion! Cars will get recalled when they break but i think an admition that over £2k of labour was spent on the rear alone by the manufacturer to fix one says it all. In this case i am looking out for a potential fellow competitor. The chassis needs completely re-thinking before i d race one - simply "unsafe"! Quote
mattf Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Weren't the original Phenoix and the Fury originally designed by the same person? Quote
oioi Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 I apologise if i offended you i wouldnt worry about offending me, its just you walked through my line of sight and got splatted Quote
oioi Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 so whats the difference between the fury, phoenix and for completeness stylus chassis' Quote
I.S.M Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Not sure about the stylus oioi, but fundamentally the fury chassis is very short. Stripped - the front end needs to be taller to maximise triangulation effectiveness - its very "skateboard" reminiscent (sp?). The rear is bear, in the nakedness sense of the word, diff tries to get out and everything. Whole chassis would benefit for higher guage steel tube - its weight saving gone mad. Quote
scott beeland Posted August 2, 2005 Author Posted August 2, 2005 Ta Jamie. A valued opiniom in my view. If I do go further down this route I guess I'll be speaking to the guys ay PKM re chassis etc Quote
Rob Navin Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 I would have to agree with Jamie on what I saw of the Furry. The pheonix chassis is now fully round tubed and made by caged for Ian. This was all new for the start of this season. To me, in an informed opinion, I believe that this is now one of the best chasiss in the market at the momment for this enclosed type of car. If I were to build one that I had to pay for and run myself it would be a pheonix every time. Its alkso worth looking at what is doing well in the RGB's at the momment ? I have no connection with Stuiart Taylor motorsport except fopr being a happy customer of his. Rob Quote
ChrisG Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Its alkso worth looking at what is doing well in the RGB's at the momment ? That'll be Furies and Pheonix's then. Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion but there are shed loads of Furies racing week-in week-out, and if they were as weak as the comments above portray, they'd certainly have gained a bad reputation before now. The fact that they don't and are very popular race cars must count for something IMHO (surely much more popular than Westies in most open race series). I will say that Im not speaking from a particularly qualified position having never owned one, but I have driven and spannered on a couple of Furies in the past, sure like any other design there is room for impovement in strength and stiffness, but I struggle to comprehend that it is anywhere near as bad as Jamie suggests. phil caged Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Not a plug - honest!!! Just so you guys can see what can be done with a CAD seat, tube laser cutter and 4 months of your time - go on - give it a go!! My Webpage Oh this is Mk1 - Mk2 is already out with laser cut bulkheads for suspension piick ups - accurate to 1mm across entire chassis Quote
