There is no excuse at all but the councils do make it very difficlt to drop some waste off. I had an engine block and some bits, jobsworth told me it was trade waste so I couldn't leave it, I saw the boss who accepted it was hobby waste and it was duly left. If I had been some moronic cretin do you think I would have taken it home and found somewhere to dump it legally when there is a layby handy. I would jail anyone who dumps waste illegaly

I dont know about the rest of the country but the employee's at opur local dump have turned into nazi's and every bag of hopuse hold waste you have to split in front of them and seperate into the indeviduel skips, this is all down to the fact they now are on performance related pay! and they wont take ANYTHING associated with cars at all! I have to admit I have thought about fly tipping cos there are no other options.

The stupid thing is that the short sighted attitude of the local counicl will end up costing them more inthe long run asd they have to clean up all the rubbish that has been fly tipped, but there you go typical local goverment only interested in the short term gain!

The dump will take private oil, batteries, metal - all sorts.  I agree that they don't make it easy, they open a lot of bags and make you put things in the right skip which is irritating, especially as it's just so the govt can claim to be meeting recycling targets that they set themselves.  If the recycling actually saved energy it would be useful but it doesn't.

I think the washing machne was dumped by a local shop avoiding paying the disposal fee.

I just mentioned this thread to a friend. He lives near to some woods in a fairly isolated area. Apparently a while back he came accross someone under their car on the edge of these woods so stopped to see if he needed any help.

Turns out the :arse: was about to change his oil by simply removing the sump plug and letting it drain into the undergrowth!!      :arse:

Local authorities have a duty to take any household waste free of charge, provided that you deliver it to them.  If you want something collected, they are allowed to charge for the transport.

AFAIK there are no laws which say that you have to segregate anything from anything else when you take it to the dump.  (Sure the EU will be dreaming one up, though).

The only aggro they can give you is if they think it's trade not household.

Unless you deliver it in a van. I have privately owned van as daily transport & they won't take any rubbish from it. Have to park round the corner from the site & walk it in so they don't see. Council is generating its own problem - although it could be part of a job creation scheme funded by taxpayers. Paying people to tidy up the countryside etc, whilst also employing people at their local waste site. :bangshead:
