chrisbin Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Just thought I'd post a bit of info' relevant to self-employed/sole traders... Someone I know has been negotiating with IR for the past 3 years over a tax bill. He reckoned that he originally owed them in the region of £28k.... Anyway, it all came to a head recently with IR demanding payment - the amount was now considerably more..... He had a meeting at the local tax office, listened to what they had to say, then took out a Bankers Draft for £30k and said that he was prepared to give them that in full and final settlement..... Tax man has to go and discuss with superiors... 30 minutes later.... Taxman returns and says that yes they will accept. He then had a conversation for another 10 minutes about this and that before Mr Taxman finally said "er, could I have that cheque now sir?"....."oh yes, silly me, I forgot I still had it..." So, where else can you get an interest free loan for £30k for 3 years.............. Moral is, its worth a try!! Quote
