CocoPops Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Guys, I need some help, if you spot an advert for the following kind of car, please let me know. 2005 car 1.8/2.0 engine (throttle bodies pref) LOW milage Basically, I need to try and justify more money from the insurance co. The factory has told me £18k to build a car similar to my car. Flappa's car is at £14k iirc Or if you can find any 2003 and older cars at £12,500 or more etc. So the more I can find, the better etc. Thanks to everyone in advance. Quote
chrisbin Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Surely the factory's answer should be enough...?? The problem with adverts will be that they will not reflect the build cost...... Quote
CocoPops Posted July 8, 2005 Author Posted July 8, 2005 Yeah, I know that Chris, you know that, but the insurance company......... I am also trying to say to them, that really, nobody builds a car then sells it straight away etc. So to get another 2 week old westy and be the first owner etc, I need more money Quote
chrisbin Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Sounds like you're gonna have a bit of a fight..... Quote
gadrego Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Have you mentioned the insurance onbudsman? It usually gets things moving a little quicker! Insurance companies can be a real A*** with this sort of thing because they don't want to pay any more than they have to. If you're are saying £18k and they're saying £12.5k, why not tell them to find you a car at £12.5k and see how they react to that? In my experience, it is possible to get a fair price by being persistant but remember to draw the line somewhere or it'll go on forever. Quote
JeffC Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 I may be wrong but will the insurance company only pay out the true market value of the damaged car... If you were to put your car up for sale prior to the accident what price would you have expected to sell it at... I check classifieds every week and imo £12500 is an awseome shout and if you were replacing it would get you a high spec busa/ or sorted vx or v8 for that money ... If the insurance company were to go through the classifieds for cars of your spec for sale you could be on a sticky wicket.. I can appreciate the money time and effort gone into building a car to your spec , but to be fair the most cost effective way to own a westy is to buy one built and let the builder blow his brains out. Ive done just that on the ones ive bought! unfortunatley build costs doesnt reflect market value... if you had spent £4000 on suspension it wouldnt make it worth £4k more if you understand what im saying... just my 2pence worth. I hope you get sorted .. Quote
CocoPops Posted July 8, 2005 Author Posted July 8, 2005 Thats just it though JeffC. Try and find a car of those specs (and no more than a month old)! You can't, so the only way to get it, is to pay for it to be built. Quote
