dasamdy Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 I've got the possibility of a (good) job in MK (I live in Nottingham). Does anyone commute along this stretch of M1 or have any idea what it's like living down there TIA Dave Quote
Blatman Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 How to describe Milton Keynes... It's Barratt House central... More roundabouts than London... Dave Andrews lives there I'm sure it has it's nice parts, just like any other town. If it was me, I'd live in a village in a more rural area in Bucks or Beds, and commute in... Quote
Blatman Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Never seen any. I'm always driving too fast and attacking the *many* apexes on the roundabouts... Quote
Bananaman Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 They also have a great Football Club!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They nicked from some place in London where they play Tennis Quote
Blatman Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Milton Keynes Dons, who play at the National Hockey Stadium... Quote
Andoid Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 I got a job in Milton Keynes about 4 years ago and relocated from Bolton, I live in a north village about 10miles from the centre and it take about 20mins to get to work in the morning, works for me. I wouldn't like to live on one of the central estates, no offence to anyone that does! Quote
jak Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 I'm down there on a training course Mon - Wed, is there much to do in the evenings? John. Quote
westy666 Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Used to live & work there until a couple of years ago. Depends what you like in a town (or as they prefer - new city - ) Most estates have as many houses as they can pack in, so chances are someone will be looking in at you from one angle or another, but ..., loadsa restaurants, leisure activities & nightlife, if you're into that sorta thing. Fairly 'young' population. Most favourable estates are Loughton, Westcroft, Emerson Valley (other side of the A5 basically). Ain't cheap tho, most 3 bed places are going for around 180k these days. M1 is pretty ruff up by J16/15. Oh ... & bank on having to get a new set of front brakes & left front tyre about once a year, as blatters says the r'bouts are irresistable Quote
Andoid Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 lots to do now it used to be quite grim a few years ago. Snowboarding, Skiing, night clubs, theatre, roundabouts, cinema etc all the things you get in a 'normal' town but all in one place, head for the theatre district and snow zone that is where all bars, clubs, restaurants etc... are Quote
Blatman Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Ooppsss. Where'd that go? Itchy clicky finger... Quote
Pembroke Pat Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 I wouldn't like to live on one of the central estates My sister lives in Oldbrook. but I still think MK is a strange place. tip :2 don't work at Stone and Websters as they are Still they do have lots of shops, cinemas etc which don't exist down here in Pembroke Quote
Andoid Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Oldbrook is very central but one of the better central estates IMO The problem with some of the estates in CMK is they lake any community, as most people who live here are from somewhere else! Quote
Lins Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Most favourable estates are Loughton, Hey I remember Loughton when it was just a small village. My folks still live there and half their mail still gets send to Loughton Essex before MK. Would'nt live there now tho - just my choice - I think it's partly I remember it when it was expanding really fast, and lots of the green fields are now housing estates. Blimey that makes me feel real old. and I'm only 32 ! Lins Quote
Carl Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Somebody who works for me does the same commute, approx 1hr 20mins. (except on a Friday night when it's 2hrs) Quote
