Good evening gentlemen.

This is my 1st post, so hello to all  :)

I bought my narrow bodied SE last summer.  It had a tired x/flow (and yes it did leak oil), siezed brakes and a shot cooling sytem - otherwise it was OK   :D

The last 6 months have been spent fixing all of the above, and I have looked at the WSCC forum almost daily - addictive isn't it?  Apart from the entertainment value, it has given me countless tips and ideas - thanks guys - I feel like I've known you for years  ;)

Anyway, back to the post.  I'm thinking of buying a Westfield manifold (expensive) and mating it to a silencer from Car Builder Solutions.  They are offering a repackable silencer for £170.  Has anyone bought one, or any pointers on why they may not be suitable?  Aren't Westfield silencers slightly cranked on the inlet side?

There is a slight bend on the inlet to the silencer, yes.

There are many companies making exhaust systems for Westfield. I've got a re-packable Wunoff can on mine. It needed a link pipe making up, but any local engineering place should be able to do that. If you like, I can take a photo to show you the angle necessary on the link pipe (although it may be slightly different for a X-Flow).

You can get them new from Wunoff for about 200 quid or so, so the price you're quoting is in the right area. I'm not familiar with the company you mention, do they have experience in this area?

The Wunoff dropped the noise output on my car (2 litre Zetec on carbs) from about 103dB with the standard Westfield silencer (about 6 years and 10000 miles old) to about 96dB.

Welcome aboard by the way. I trust you're going to be joining the club? :)

Andy,

Of course I'm a member, too risky to ask a question on here otherwise :p

Car Builder Solutions sell all sorts of stuff you may be interested in (have a look at www.nfauto.co.uk) and no I don't work for them!  They do not specialise in silencers, but quote 94 dB, which is pretty good.

I'll have a look at Wunoff too.

Cheers

Don't forget to upgrade your boardroom membership. You'll need your membership number and postcode, along with your boardroom login details.

As for silencers and the like, do a search on here (I'm getting all my catch phrases into one thread ;)) and you should find a number of options. Raceline are another (although they may only do Zetecs? ).

Actually, you're "borrowing" catchphrases, they ain't yours.......  :p:p:D:D

I knew as I typed that, someone would comment on it. I guess I should have known it'd be you :D

Any suggestions for a catch phrase of my own? How about:

'For details of how to post images, follow the link in my sig'.

Will that do? :D

It's a bit long........

I bet you've never heard that before  :0:0:D:D

Worzel.........this is thread drift. Sorry......

Back to manifolds and exhausts (temporarilly)......have a look for Tony Law in the search function. He has a good reputation for quality work at reasonable prices. For silencers, as previously mentioned, Wunoff would be a good bet, although Tony Law may also have options for you to explore. Also, depending on your requirements/credit balance, Raceco make some excellent products, although they are aimed at C******m's, I'm sure he'd be only to pleased to sell more stuff. The owner of raceco is a top geezer, so have no fear about asking "impertinent" Westfield type questions....
