Is there a correlation between treadwear and grip?

Oh yeah. More grip = more treadwear! e.g. Toyo T1R's don't wear out and don't grip!

In terms of numbers, the lower number = more grip. 80-100 is trackday or wet whereas 200+ is road use.  (Generalisation)

So will a 200 tyre grip better than a 100 tyre?

No (generally - but may differ brand to brand)

Be careful using treadware indicator numbers alone though.

They aren't always truly representative. Especially for performance/trackday tyres commonly sold in the US market. (One of the US motorsports governing bodies used the treadware index to try and block certain high grip tyres a few years ago. and low and behold the manufactures involved "re-formulated" the tyres compounds and now sells them with a higher treadware index, that is allowed. Except that most that use the tyres reckon there is absolutely no difference in times, feel, grip etc, and all they did was change the number!)
