there's chat about the RX8 box but from searching on here it would seem that it doesn't fit in the tunnel

I can offer you more than chat... I tried!

The RX-8 6 speed box does not fit a wide body, wide (MT75) tunnel.

You can make it fit by cutting the chassis to narrow the passenger footwell. It's been done, I've seen the pictures and spoken to the owner.

Also it's heavy!

What makes you feel like your on the engineering limit of the current box? How many rebuilds has it had?

I have just had a new SPC Tracsport type 9 built using a new semi helical gear set
This is designed for the Duratec using more power.
See link https://www.tracsport.com/gearkits

The gearbox prices, unfortunately, are no longer current.

I am now thinking about selling the box.
It’s done about 300 miles.
I find I can’t get on with the noise of the semi helical gears 1st, 2nd and 3rd on the road at light load.

PM me if you want to discuss.

Im sending 290 lbft at low rpm through it.

im thinking  that’s a big ask from an mx5 box.

I’m thinking of updating the pistons and bigger turbo but no point  if the transmission can’t take it.
