Supercharged Sequential Dura SEIW 2004 SOLD!!

So with a heavy heart I’m putting my car up for sale 😬.

Some long term members will be familiar with this car, I bought it off another member in 2008 as a standard factory built seiw duratec. Jeff Cooper had nicknamed it "The Black Slug" having found the performance a bit lacklustre after his previous bike engined versions but in fact it was a perfectly acceptable car that had faster things in store............

For me it was always intended as a trackday toy so early mods included a full welded in cage at Procomp along with some frame bracing, Protech suspension and custom wide track front arms.

I’m fairly tall so in went a lowered floor kit and a set of JC Composites seats.

The car was built with AP 4-pot brakes, Westfield alloy hubs, front and rear adjustable ARBs etc so the chassis was now pretty well sorted and it was time to move on to the power plant.

Supercharger was obviously the way forward and at a WSCC trackday I was chatting to Luke and Nick from Playskool who were thinking about a similar conversion so off we went into development. The setup uses the original throttle bodies but required a new alloy radiator, intercooler, plenum chamber, injectors, ecu and a load of piping but the results were a revelation and resulted in around 270 very drivable bhp.

This was all still on the standard engine but I happened across the opportunity to buy a fully built engine with rods, liners, low comp pistons, bigger valves and all the associated bits and bobs so in it went resulting in another boost in power and intensity 😁. I would estimate this engine has done around 2000 miles now.

Naturally running all this through the original Type 9 would be a lot to ask so I installed a new Quaife 60G sequential box; these currently list at £7.5k. Along with the geartronics flatshift and it’s a pretty perfect setup, amazing to drive.

Other bits and bobs it would come with include a total of 12 wheels, 8 Compomotives and 4 split-rims - all 13", and the original standard Duratec engine.

It has a detachable steering wheel which is handy for getting in/out and the Racelidz 3" harnesses are pull-up adjustable which makes things a lot easier for driver and passenger.

Long range fuel tank and swirl pot are fitted for maximum range and no fuel surge.

Noise is a constant issue for trackdays so the car is running a repackable WunOff silencer which gets it below the 105 static limit that we see at a lot of tracks (Oulton, Snett, Cadwell, Croft, Anglesey etc) but would probably need some silencing to the intake to get past other stricter venues.

Setup on this car took a while to get right but for something with so much power it is now easy to drive fast and very controllable even in wet conditions.

I’ve taken the car to a good number of club trackdays and had the opportunity to act as the clubs "house instructor" at Mallory, (a soaking wet) Cottesmore and a couple of Blytons so many members will have seen it lapping or had a ride.

Throughout I’ve been lucky enough to trackday regularly with an ever-growing group of like minded Westfield owners but for the last couple of years my racing and instructing commitments have tended to take over so Westie outings have become less frequent and the plans tor my next track build mean I really need to let one or two toys go to raise funds and make some space!

A few things to bear in mind..........

The car is road registered but currently SORNed, it could be put back on the road but would require a few jobs doing.

Power-wise I never got round to optimising cam timing or anything else beyond getting it a safe map on the dyno and it hasn’t been retested for a few years so I don’t want to claim any particular current number; suffice to say whatever it is I think it’s obviously pretty adequate but there’s more to come if you want it. There is a bigger capacity charger available should you want to look for ultimate numbers; I never felt the need.

After a number of years of track use this car is not in concours condition. I’ve always tried to stay well on top of it mechanically and there really has been no expense spared on it’s development and upkeep but the fibreglass is less than perfect in places. The nose cone is cracked, rear arches have taken a few stone hits along with other bits of cosmetics around the bodywork.

I’ve very much tried to allow for all this with an asking price of £17,500.

I’ve seen lesser spec’d cars fetching well past £20k so I hope this is a realistic number for something that is ready to go out on track and have fun in or could run back on the road or tidied up for not too much cost and some TLC.  Either way I’m open to a sensible conversation with a genuine buyer 👍.

I’ve no doubt forgotten something so feel free to post up any questions on here or by PM or message me to arrange a Corona-friendly viewing!

Thanks

Steve H

I remember this car well, particularly at Cadwell Park, as well as a couple of the Blyton weekends. I can confirm it is a very quick and well sorted car.

Sorry to see you selling, Steve, but we all have to move on to pastures new from time to time.

You’re a fabulous seller.

Thanks for being so helpful.

One week is a long time between westfields. Luckily the garage space will not be left empty any longer!

Now where can I get a suitable trailer from?

Sorry to thread hijack but I have a trailer I plan on putting up for sale soon made by the aluminium trailer company specifically designed for kit cars. If you are still after a trailer that is?
