Garage damaged wheel fitting tyre

I had my car mot'd and had two front tyres fitted and they have damaged my wheel, Quite badly, I'm narked off about it BUT it is to the inside of the wheel. small bit to the outside.   Do i say cest la vie or do i complain.

I asked him to go careful as this is the first time they had had fresh rubber since the refurb. I also asked him to be careful of my wheel speed sensor. I only noticed the damage since my speedo was not working and he had taken it off.  just stuck it on with a peice of gaffa tape on a dirty wheel it would not of lasted 5 minutes.

Oh dear. I'm forced to use a nationwide bunch of tyre monkeys for my Company Car and I always wash my wheels before a visit and take pics on my phone to demonstrate there unmarked condition. I then check before leaving. Mark's on the inside aren't so obvious to see etc. Hence your reason to find it later is valid.

Any pics?

Why is your speedo not working? they shouldn't need to be anywhere near the sensor etc! I don't understand why they've taken it off?

It's so disappointing to read this as it's not difficult with modern tyre machines to fit a new tyre without damaging the alloy!

yes, go back and insist on a repair to your acceptance or a new wheel. Clearly it's better to point out before you leave, however they may have CCTV so ask them to show it, if they argue etc.

So they've used a knife or similar badly to remove the old balancing weights?  I'd not be happy with that on mine. Yes, your wheels aren't spotlessly clean on the inside, however that mark was avoidable!

the dots near the gouge look like its from the jaws of the gripper on the tyre fitting machine

Really poor workmanship that is, as Ian mentioned - The modern fitting machines make it a doddle!

I'd certainly have the conversation with them that's for sure!

O dear... not even me with my old machine would do that...

The wheel has slipped in to the jaws, Probably he has used the wrong clamping method, specially if they were track tyres with stiff sidewall.

An small wheel needs to be clamped from the outside with plastic protectors. Really poor work, and astonished that someone that does that for a living, dont know how to do it properly.

This offer wont sort your problem, but to whoever is worried about their wheels, feel free to pop over to mines one afternoon, and with a set of beers and for the cost of the weights and new valves we'll do it with the ammount of care requiered.

This is open to everyone in the club that has Crewe on hand...

I agree with @maurici that was caused by the jaw on the tyre machine and it slipped when trying to remove the tyre. I work in the motor trade and have seen this before.

i would go back and talk to the owner and get them to repair or refund some money so you can repair at a later date if you like or as a compensation.

That's not good at all, Ive not had bother with wheels getting marked but they use an impact wrench to do up the nuts, You wouldn't believe how tight they are, I now do all my own tyres and family members, Myself and son has gone halfs on a changer and balancer, Money well spent and tbh its fun changing tyres lol, Handy when I go through rears every few thousand miles on the bike to

I rang the guys and spoke to the Dad that fitted the tyres.

Its a small garage father and son. The son rally's mk2 escorts that's why i like using them as he knows his onions and I have a live axle car. The son fitted my tyres last time (not a mark).

I gave the feedback about my disappointment around the taped speed sensor, and that he taped on dirt and don't know why he touched it.

I told him about the damage to the inside of the wheel. He said it fell off the balancer, but he was unaware of the marks that had happened 🙄 i ll believe you, thousands wouldn't.

Ultimately he was very apologetic and listened to my lecture about doing a job properly and don't use the tyre machines on nice wheels if you cant do it without damage, get your son to do them.

I'm leaving it there......Life's too short. No one died and you won't be able to see it.

Roll on the better weather

Everyone makes mistakes in life and hopefully they are minor and in your case not too harmful.

For our vehicles the need for friendly, experienced specialists is virtually a necessity and I applaud your attitude to this supplier
