cast iron 107
Properly boiling my front brakes this weekend at Knockhill Are vented discs on the front a standard disc form a road car? If so which model please?
CraigHew 1,813
My S2000 uses ventend and groved discs from an Escort Mk 2 Vented Disc (Std Grooved) 283mm. HiSpec produce them but as a company they're b*stards to deal with... You'd need to check which discs will fit your calipers too, unless you're going to uprate them at the same time. the stoat 313
I would place a significant bet that this can be solved without changing the discs. First thing would be fluid, when did you last change it? I like Gulf RF1000 and have never been able to boil it. If you then still have issues look at the pads. What pads are you currently running and what calipers?
cast iron 107
yes fluid is changed every 6 months. Knockhill is a short circuit with at least one massive step on the pedal every minute from 120 down to a second gear hairpin. Carbotech pads Castrol react dot4 fluid Im not getting brake fade, the pedal pressure drops right off. 30 mins after the race back to normal
AdamR 2,402
Even with bog standard Dot4 it shouldn't be boiling the fluid. Definitely not air in the system? Echo comments about not needing vented discs.
SootySport 1,038
What callipers do you have? Never known a Westfield to overheat brakes as you say.

cast iron 107
It runs Hispec 4 pots M16 replacements on the front
DE04* 247
Does it happen at other tracks or just Knockhill?
cast iron 107
started this year at Croft , driving a hell of a lot faster! I think ive found the limit, but still need to go faster!

On road no - but a local S2000 powered car would boil the brakes at Croft
Chris King 4,793
@cast iron maybe @phil.mercboy can tell you how he solved his boiling brakes issue?
AdamR 2,402
15 hours ago, cast iron said: It runs Hispec 4 pots There is your problem. The pistons are too high up the caliper, this makes the pads wear at a taper. When hot the pistons bind up and leave you with spongy brakes, when cool everything feels 'normal' again. I use quotation marks because brakes are always horribly spongy with those calipers, get someone else to press your brake pedal and check the flex! Something else that may help improve your braking in general is doing some proper brake bias calculations at www.brakepower.com.
SootySport 1,038
Exactly as above, hi spec ultralight will flex and wear unevenly, been there and done that. Solution was to return to the trusty Ford M16’s.
cast iron 107
Pads are flat level, no taper
