What next, cameras for noise!

Do we have noise legislation in the UK? I know the SVA has noise checks but there isn't a noise check at MOT time, or if there is I've never been tested for noise. Nor has my car...

Levels have yet to be decided upon according to one report I read. Sound measurement is a Black Art in my experience though. Plenty of room for argument by expert witnesses and, of course, lawyers.

If the current minister remains responsible after the impending cabinet reshuffle, we will all be forced to be chauffeured in electric autonomous vehicles before all the legalities and roll out of this likely .

Lets not forget the source is the Scottish Daily Mail too...

And perhaps this is another of those government mis-direction stories so loved by the Blair government where draconian legislation would be announced, there would be outcry and the subsequent legislation would be toned down and we thought we got lucky...

There has already been police in England pulling motorcyclists and cars over as "in the opinion of the officer" they were excessively noisy. For bikes they look for the approval on the exhaust and on later cars they look at what the OE figure is if they involve the specialist road officers with measurement equipment.

I was speaking with a policeman recently and we were discussing this very subject. I pointed out that my Westfield passed the SVA and the limit then was 105 decibels. He was saying the new limit for cars is 85 decibels and even if my car met a previous level they can still use the S59 which is driving in a manner to cause offence as that requires no logic just opinion.

These are laws targeted at idiots but will drag others into it. It is yet another example of none petrolheads making laws to appease others who make a lot of vocal noise.

Ah, Chris Grayling.

The same stupid tw*t that ordered cross-channel shipping capacity from a company with no ships, cancelled the contract costing the taxpayer £M50.

I cannot verify the accuracy of the following figures (£2.7Bn) which are impressively large (£2,778,072,000).

He may have had help from some other members of the Cabinet (and Tory party leadership contenders) currently regaling us with stories of dope taking 20 years ago.

I'm more interested in what they been taking in the last 20 months of Cabinet overseeing the Brexit shambles.

Would be interested to know how these cameras can prove that the source of the noise is from the same vehicle detected and not from some other source

e.g. Imagine a police helicopter hovering overhead  would confuse things

Of course, electric cars are very quiet...

[/conspiracy theory...]

20ish years ago the congestion charge was a ridiculous idea.

10 years ago a low emission zone that included cars was a ridiculous idea.

Next year it will cost me some money to drive my car within the North and South Circular roads so either I buy a new(er) car or get the bus/tube from outside the zone...

It will be like speed cameras, you are guilty unless you prove otherwise and that will cost a fortune and you will never get the cash back

The writing is on the wall, another nail imo.

What should a Westfield noise limit be?

if the limit is set to 85dB, tell me a Westfield that would meet that!

Sky News also has the report.

They are reporting 73 db as the maximum permitted for new vehicles since 2016 but I'm sure my IVA pass last year was something like 93 db against a max of 96 db.

My plan is to turn up the power on my blue-tooth amp and drown out the exhaust.

That is possibly true but we and many other smaller manufacturers have exemptions and so long as you have passed the SAV or BIVA and you car is at that limit the law is on your side, but fighting it is always harder.

So what about starting a Noise Fund

Lets say 10% of all club subs go towards hiring a barrister to fight the first Westy case to get pulled for noise limit . this could then set a president to deter any future litigation .

Just a thought
