It may well do. I am not sure of the full extent of the law.

I am pretty sure the cops use reasonable judgement about when to apply the law., which I realise is controversial.

If I remember correctly the Criminal Justice Act was originally envisaged to prevent "large" demonstrations from happening as well as giving the organisers of such events a framework under which the event can be better managed by both the organisers and the police. At the time the recent poll tax riots along with previous large scale disturbances both in Central London and elsewhere were the catalyst for this law which sought to prevent large scale damage to buildings and property as well as violence towards the police and members of the public. The un-intended consequence is that the law doesn't (probably can't) precisely enumerate which groups this should apply to so in theory it can be applied universally. In practice we know it isn't.

As a responsible organisation, the WSCC, it AO's and members should be seen to try to abide by the law when an event is organised in it's name.

Just for clarity, the rules we were talking about before are nothing directly to do with the above.

The WSCC is a Motorsport UK (formerly known as the MSA), affiliated club. As part of that we have to conform to various MSA rules for certain types of events the Club or its officers may run.

In practice, with certain types, such as “navigational” events, then under 12 vehicles taking part is an automatic acceptance, without having to do anything. Above twelve requires a very small amount of paperwork from the club to be submitted to specific organisations. (There is an upper limit to the vehicle numbers, where it does get much more complicated, but that would mean closer to 200 vehicles.)

As I say, this is compliance with Motorsport UK’s rules for us, not the Criminal Justice Act.

Incidentally, on the organised gathering side of things that Blatters mentioned, I’m not sure if it’s still the case, but certainly until recently, some types of vehicular get togethers are or were completely banned in a few parts of the UK! (A result of the Cruise type scene?)

Yeah Dave, as soon as you mentioned the issue, I figured it would be a blue book thing, given the club's affiliation. Dotting teas and crossing eyes!

I live in the village where the Caterham lot set off for the fish and chip run. They do take over the pub car park, but the pub opens specially at 8am for bacon rolls and coffee.

They are all gone by 10am. They tend to run in groups of 6 or 8. They don't all return to the pub as many head for home after they meet at the coast.

So the MSA is a proxy to ensure affiliated clubs abide by the law.

Before my time as a youngie , but old family friends would always talk about this great man. So, we actually dont need negative camber, wide tyres, roll bars, race clothing , decent track surface. Just balls of steel.

Even if I possessed the skills, my eyesight's just not up for it anymore!
