Help finding radiator switch for silvertop

Hi guys, amidst fixing the various issues with my recent purchase I’ve now found that the rad switch isn’t working.

I ordered a replacement but it’s come through a completely different part, can anyone point me in the direction of the correct one?

Ive attached pics with the Ford part number (I don’t want to buy an OE part as it’s £30!)

Is that a sensor or a switch looks an awful lot like the black top sensor that goes under the coil on the head. 

However topran make them if you work out what car the engine would’ve been in (escort 1.8 ghia/si/xr3i etc) and eBay search or use eurocarparts search that’s what I do

Yes, doesn’t work as a switch...took it to well over 100degrees on the bench  fan works perfectly with a bridged connection.

no wonder the fan never comes on! , blimey there are some shocking bodges on this car, every time I take something apart I find a new issue

I’ll call Ford to 100% check the part number (might be the switch and sensor share the same housing) but it looks like I’ll have to find a switch that fits this NPT thread or make a new tapping.

There should be a fan switch somewhere but sometimes the ecu controls the fan. 

Mine is a Westfield supplied webcon ecu and has nothing to do with the fan as the fan is controlled by a switch on the radiator.... look for a switch/sensor on your rad. Sometimes they’re on the thermostat housing though so be careful. There needs to be a sensor like the one you’re looking for but also a fan switch unless controlled by the ecu.

Unfortunately not, the alloy rad doesn’t appear to have anywhere to fit in and the fan wiring goes to this sensor.

I run carbs and my ignition only ECU only has throttle position and engine speed signals in.

I have a separate VDO coolant temp sender in the bottom of the stat housing also.

AI think my option is to madding the stat housing to accept a ‘normal’ sized fan switch,  weld a boss to the rad or add a T peice/union into the pipework.

In the mean time I’ve wired up manual switch so at least I can control the fan  if needed.

@Skypeller is your fan switch in the cold or hot side of the rad? cheers

@tr3m5 mine is actually on the side moulding of the radiator bang smack between the top & bottom hose. If you google 1.0 vw polo radiator you’ll see the m22 drilled&tapped hole where it screws in. Yeah absolutely i’d Personally go for a t piece and I’m going to say on the TOP hose/engine outlet
