4age power?

Chris Jones

Recommended Posts

I have recently purchased an Seiw with a 4age motor, twin dellarato 45s and an omex 3 dimensional ignition. It’s been standing for quite a while and has hesitations when first opening the throttle but clears at high revs?!? Totally new to these cars and carbs, what to try first?

Also what power output could I expect for such a set up?

:ww:    There's a couple of 4age powered around.     Hesitation could be a lot of things but the 45 carbs are a little large for a 1600cc engine.     You could start buy giving it a service, all the usual things, oil, filter, air filter, spark plugs and if your keen rebuilding the carbs with a service kit from Eurocarb, which includes all the gaskets, O rings, filters.    After that a carb tuning specialist may be able to jet it correctly and have it running a bit smoother.

As for bhp, anything from 140 to 160 at a guess.

45's are too big for the 4age you would be better off with twin 40's ask Martin at RAW for jet sizes he's really helpful. Bhp about 140 ish

Can’t remember weather mine had 40’s or 45’s I thought they where 45’s, but it was all susplied by raw & was the same set up as yours. I remember them changing the jets when they set it up & it was a cracking engine but as said service change plugs etc.

Standard they where about 135bhp & if you had up rated cams 160bhp

Any pictures?

The car was misfiring badly when I bought it, changed plugs and leads etc and it’s much better, just a this hesitation when first opening the throttle but when it clears it pulls very well. I did wonder if the carbs were to big and needed more air?

It'll just need the carbs setting up. Will be a goer then.

After life getting in the way, spent a bit of time and money and it is now running a healthy and smooth 130bhp after a carb tune. New tyres and tracking and now running great.
