Is anyone else listing things to do this winter season tinkering yet ? Obviously as we drive our cars now , we have those niggles to resolve which dont affect but want to do.

My list so far is :

1/ Carbon front wings

2/ Solid rack mounts

3/ Sort out the QR wheel hub fitting

4/ Service engine and gearbox oil

5/ Bleed brakes

6/ Mod coolant fitting to stop whispy coolant smell and replace oil cooler coolant hoses.

7/ Carbon indicator pods

I do use the car all year, but I may take it off the road for a few weeks while I tinker and tweak. Who else has a list yet ?

Oh hang on, mis-read this one as "anyone started tinkering yet" - if you want the proposed tinkering list rather than the couldn't wait until winter list...

  • Full cage
  • V8 bonnet
  • carbon flared side panels
  • sort out why it's a bit of a swine to get into and then out of reverse
  • LSD

not sure which of these will make it past the financial controller though...

another one for the pre-winter list is the Coolex radiator - it has a minuscule weep from the core, so minuscule that I haven't topped it up since doing 12-1500 miles around Scotland followed by Blyton.

 Mine is in at Playskool at the moment for mid-year tinkering, list is;

* Carbon flared side panels

* 4 wheel traction control system fitted to DTA ecu

* Launch control

Shortly followed by;

* AIM MXS dash installation

* Freewheel installation

* Running in of my new engine and fine tuning of the pneumatic paddle shift, following that a final mapping session

After all that I think I might be struggling to find any more upgrades! oh just thought of a one for winter, brake balance system :)

Just the usual oil and filter change planned at the moment.

Plus ì really need to look see if I have a fuel filter fitter on my fuel lines somewhere then decide about a refresh.  Àlso keep thinking about a ballads timing chain tensioner just as a pre-emptive precaution (currently no symptoms)...

Decent clean underneath too.

Slightly (a lot!) Earlier than planned I'm staring my engine transplant, 1.6 ecoboost with RX8 6 speed gearbox.

I should be driving the car when the weather is like this but I've got a serious, overwhelming case of upgradeitus.

1. Convert remainder of bulbs to led.

2. Change the plastic dash to the carbon one and new switches and freewheel.

3. Possibly convert to concentric clutch slave to give me a bit more clearance around the steering column.

4. I'd hoped to swap wheels to some lovely force split rims but recent spending may put this one off til winter 18/19.

Mmmm, thinking turbo, even though it's still not on the road!

Unsure how to get approval from the finance department at the moment.

Not much this year;

1. remove type 9 mechanical speedo drive and fit

TYPE-9-AND-ROCKET-SPEEDO-BLANK-WITH-O-RING-SEALS-CATERHAM-WESTFIELD-KITCAR-Etc

2. Fit new center tunnel carpet Westfield supply them separate from complete carpet kit now.

3. Repair crack in FW bonnet near hinge.

In 4 years of ownership I've not had to do much at all, but maybe this year is the year to do something.

Fit digital dash,

Replace track rod ends, steering rack gaiters, ball joints etc,

Fit roll bar I got before Christmas,

Possible head gasket change?

Proposed list:

Remove carpets and tidy up interior

Sort out the mass of wiring behind the dash

Replace speedo and tacho with Koso digital gizmo

Replace dash because of above

Fit new header tank

As I do not Sorn the Westy, the amount I get through will be weather dependent, as I would rather be driving it!
