Adge,

when I fitted an oil cooler the advice from Mocal was to fit as close to the radiator as possible to stop the air  turbulence that would reduce flow through the cooling radiator  - see link.

then click on fitting an oil cooler

That is tight, you're right the air can only go through the centre of the two. Any gap you could create would be a benefit. If you could magic up a 20-30mm gap between them, there would probably be enough to get the air through the whole area of both of them.

Just to add my 2p, I would suspect that most of us 250 boys have fitted ducting into the nose, and then sealed up any gaps so all the air comming in through the standard WF nose cone, so while I quite like the idea of a stepped rad/intercooler it might not actually be practable, and as spotted in that link may actually introduse more air-flow problems? :westy:

Brief update: My car’s been on the road for three years end of this month (September). Still enjoying the whole Westfield experience.

Took the car for its first MOT today, pleased to report a successful outcome.

Mileage just passed the 11k mark on the way home. Still running well, needless to say great fun to drive and means I’ve always got an excuse to tinker in the garage (and “occasionally” spend money!).

Excellent result Adge, however, the money spent on polish is definitely showing!
