Replacement Radiator

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

My radiator has packed up and I need to source a replacement. The current one was from Westfield in 91 and had an order code of RSE2. Does anyone know what I can replace it with please?

Cheers,

Peter

Hello Peter,

The radiators from that time that Westfield supplied were similar to Ford Escort radiators, but without a radiator cap. I don't think they are still available. Most people replace them with a Polo, or Golf radiator. Westfield now mostly use these Polo radiators. Early 1990's from the 1.0 cars, if I remember correctly. They are cheap and are lighter and more efficient than the old Westfield radiator. There is a bit of work with fitting new mounting brackets, fitting a fan and altering hose runs. Westfield sell the top mounting brackets, or you can make your own. If the radiator hoses are of a similar age it is probably worth replacing them anyway. Do a search on Polo radiator. There is a lot of information, including part numbers. I replaced mine a few years back and can't remember the details anymore.

Good thread here http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic/113990-polo-rad-and-fan/ . There are plenty of others.

Hope this helps,

Jen

The Coolex radiator I replace my standard Westfield supplied (polo) radiator has a core size of  300mm (h) X 360mm (w) with a max size of 310mm x 465mm. So far I've been very pleased with it, it's the 55mm version but they also do 42mm and 70mm.

thought that these measurements may be useful.

Second the coolex one,had mine a few months well built, and a lot cheaper than a radtec one..tho if budget doesn't allow the polo rad will do a good job....martin

Again, Coolex radiator is good. They outsource the cores, but actually build up the rads in house in a couple of days, so if you measure yours up and send the dimensions they'll make sure the connections and dimensions match.

I did that and ordered it Friday and was on my doorstep Monday.

Another Coolex customer here! I've got the 70mm core version on my Honda engined car (a hotter running modern engine) and it's been superb. Even in the really hot weather soon as I've good open air in front of me, the temps just nail at a little over 85 degrees. Even stuck in traffic, in conjunction with the high flowing Pacet Pro fan it soon drops from 98 bact to the turn off temp of 88.

That said, though the welded aly rads are a nice extra efficient cooling solution, unless you're car is fairly highly tuned or you plan on a lot of track work, a standar plastic and aly Polo rad should do you fine.

It's just such a nice, comforting feeling though, when really pressing on in hot weather, to look down and see rock solid, normal range temps. It's nice having the extra capacity/reserve there!
