Nemesis Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 My dad came over today with a notice of intended persecution for a speeding offence at one of the local fixed cameras, for a car he scrapped seven months ago....how we laughed when we filled out the daft paperwork for the local ticket office...... and addressed it to the "not guilty dept." Now onto a more serious matter, if the DVLA have sent his "you're no longer responsible for the car" ticket why would he get the notice? Do you think I'll have any joy asking them to refund me for the stamp? And I'm going to pay Portway Motors a visit and ask them who they sold the thing to..... despite the V5 being made out for scrapping the thing...... bunch of scrotes no doubt. Nem........... Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 When you scrapped the car did you not receive a certifcate of destruction? If you didn't then all the DVLA have done is send the NIP to the last registered keeper which would still be your Dad. https://www.gov.uk/scrapped-and-written-off-vehicles/scrap-your-car Quote
Deanspoors Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 It could always be someone cloning the number plate, especially if there are any photos online of the car, e.g. a private ad? Quote
Nemesis Posted February 14, 2016 Author Posted February 14, 2016 He's got the letter that DVLA sent him to say that he's no longer responsible for the car, that's dated back in August 2015, I didn't think the DVLA issued a destruction cert. any more??. The old man delivered the car to be scrapped and didn't advertise it. I reckon either the scrapyard sold it on as a working car and scrote's got a limited lifespan ahead of him..... or someones nicked the plates out of there, neither endeavor worth the effort..... the tattiest unsporty little bag of nasty Mazda that really had seen it's last days. On a brighter note..... it's obviously being driven locally..... I might just run into them...... Nem..... Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 The cert of destruction would be issued by the scrappy, not the DVLA. If he's got the letter from the DVLA from the transfer, then he should be ok, but it sounds like further up the chain the paperwork wasnt completed correctly when it was subsequently sold on. Quote
