Chris King 4,799
So any ideas why my front brake squeals like a banshee on heat? I've tried copaslip on the back and sides of the pads taking care not to contaminate the disc or pads. Worth cleaning the discs?
Stu Faulkner 1,827
Get them warm and then slam the anchors on at about 120MPH. That sorts them out. Seriously though they will settle down as they bed in. Good to se you on the road Chris, Stoneleigh next year?

SootySport 1,038
Depends what pads you have. Track pads always squeal when cold, road pads should be ok from the go.
Chris King 4,799
Mintex 1144. A good blast has improved things. Still squeal but not as much. My first proper blat and grinning like a kid! These thing dunnarf shift like
CosKev 1,028
So pleased for you after the worries of DVLA Do the Willwoods run any type of metal shim between pad and caliper?

tisme 239
I've just changed to Mintex M1144's on my Wilwood Midilites and they're the first pads I've had that squeal !! Not a lot mind you and only for light braking - but the stopping power and feel is soooooooooooooo much better I can live with it. The Midilites have stainless steel pads retainers (that put pressure on the edge of the pads) and are supposed to be a "Squeal Reduction System" so assume the noise would be worse without them
Ian Tolfree (tolf) - WSCC AO Rep 572
Have you got the caliber spring seated right, so it pushes the pads away from the disk?

Chris King 4,799
Helmet made a difference so will try earplugs as well next time. Saves taking the wheels of again

These thing dunnarf shift like Track pads then, yes they are going to squeal when cold, you're going to have to live it. Brake grease, copperslip and shims may help a bit, but I won't get rid of the noise 100%.
Greenstreak-Andy D 578
My old Westie had willwood 4 pot, the only pad not to squeal under light braking was the rubbish smart pad. Anything more focused, Mintex or poly A always squealed! Now run with AP setup, no squealing ! Much better forme!
Pistol Pete 331
Ebc greenstuff pads dont squeel.
CosKev 1,028
Nope. Anti squeal shims do what they say on the tin But as above, track/race pads are never totally quiet.
