I saw Chip Foose make a bonnet by bending a sheet of ali round a circular column in his garage - looked easy enough :rolleyes::rolleyes:

(but not by me :laugh::laugh: )

I know my limitations. He makes a lot of things look easy, not least when he renders a drawing of what a finished car is going to look like......oh to have a talent!

Hi Kevin,  I wondered how you solved your bonnet issue. I am having similar sagging / gel-coat problems with my 87 pre-lit, and am also interested in going aluminium..

Does anyone know if I can fit a Cate***m S3 unit, at £235 it would seem quite the bargin!! Don't know if the parts shop will sell without paperwork though.. Any experiences?

Hi Roger,

In the end I accepted it as a "feature" of the car, as I struggled to find an option to replace.

Not sure on the S3 bonnet. I Just don't know how closely the pre-lit followed the other marque's dimensions.

As it happens, with my ongoing engine swap, I have had to cut a substantial hole in the bonnet and have a GRP bulge to fit, so that's me sorted.

Thanks for replying, Kevin. If no one else can offer any experience on the S3 bonnet, I think I am going to take the plunge and buy one.  Unfortunately I don't have any circular columns in my garage in case it doesn't fit!!!

I know there is a company in called aurora in wrington Somerset that will make a bonnet. They made one for a friend's prelit about 8 years ago for £200.It was vented as well and the fit was perfect. You have to take the car there,so depends how close you are.

I have been told the Caterham imperial panels are the same as Westfield pre lits.

Hi Dave, This is what I was hoping to hear! When you say imperial panels, are they special order ones? What should I ask for from Caterham? Many thanks,

Roger
