It's been a while since I've updated this, purely because I haven't been doing anything!

The new kit from Westfield got delayed but is due for delivery on Friday.

In the mean time the old car is fully stripped back, and been taken to my dads where I will sell it as spares and repairs.

Pictures of how it's now sat;

Hopefully this thread should start to have some progress over the next few months....summer will soon be here!

Managed to get the garage to a state I am happy with this evening, so were all set for the kit to be delivered on Friday.

The garage was a real mess, and it's actually quite a nice place to be now, plenty of space, lots of lights and a few heaters. Not forgetting the Bluetooth speakers it makes working in there in the evenings possible.

I started to get abit OCD when I was doing it, which I don't have time to be! So I had to take a step back and tell myself it doesn't need to be perfect, there's a lot of people putting these kits together on their driveway with the weather to contend with!

I wanted to use a standard bonnet and fit a 16v bonnet bulge for old times sake but I need as much engine clearance as possible so opted for the mega2000 bonnet;

I've been trawling ebay and such for a nice low mileage K20 and what looked like a good one came up, a few phone calls later and a trip organised for the week later and we have a new engine for the car;

I went for the K20a2, as although the K20 is better I felt for the extra cost it's probably not worth it...I'm sure we can find the same power gains and more with some light fettling!

The engine is out of the latest 2006 civic type R premier edition, and has only covered 43,507 miles.....Perfect!

The engine was still in the car so we could hear and test it running and was given the appropriate details to do mileage checks etc so it was all good.

So next was a call to the man who knows in New Zealand, 'Mark' who runs McGregor Motorsport has put a few k20's in Caterham's and their own kit cars and not only is brilliant for help and advice, happens to make a bell housing adapter to fit the K20 engine to the ford type 9 gearbox which is the plan for me.

So I've given him the details and we should be getting one sorted and over in the next month.

We will be bake to use the Honda flywheel and clutch setup with just a ford plate and an internal bearing. Hopefully won't turn out to complicated for me!

Better slow progress than no progress :lol:

So I've found out that when the project is in the garage, you have a nice daily driver, a incredible spare track car and limited time off work building a Westfield takes longer than you think!

I really did kind of forget about this and have just really been bit bobbin about with it gathering parts over the last few months.

Needless to say I need to get my A*** in gear and get this car finished too see if it can keep up with Matts Mx5 round Cadwell!

Here's a list of the parts I now have ready to fit;

-K20engine

-Quaife straight cut box

-McGregor Motorsport bell housing adapter

-Carbon fibre front lip and rear diffuser

-Race technology dash2

-Westfield vinyl race seats and mounts

-Sabelt harnesses

-Carbon fibre dashboard

-Carbon fibre csr front arches

-Caged full cage

-front and rear playskool anti roll bars

As we speak now the car is in dad's workshop as I've asked him to glance over all the chassis and brakes, best to have a professionals approval before entering barn at 100+ I thought!

So what's next, cage and bodywork need final bolting down, seats and dashboard fitting along with bleeding brakes and fitting handbrake.

Clean the engine up, match it up to the gearbox with the bell housing adapter....then 'drop it in and manufacture some engine mounts'......

Buy a second hand ep3 ecu and get it k-pro'd ready for mapping.

Then there will be loads of little bits and bobs to sort before getting it on the road.

Watch this space! It will improve slowly...

Random pictures of progress, putting matts spoiler on different cars and a classic first kit car pic;

It's worth noting that although the issues I had with car are thrustrating the previous owner and seller was very understanding, helpfull and helped get the issues sorted when he could have just not responded.

Exactly what you want and expect from a forum member so big thumbs up.

If you're not quicker than Matt's '5 round Cadwell I'll come and confiscate the car :d looking lovely, hope you can get it out for next year.

Thanks Adam,

I would hope it will be, plan is to get it out on track early next year and lapping cadwell in sub 1:40's by the end of the year but I think it will need plenty of tweaking and adjustments to get everything feeling right throughout the year.

That said I bet with a few more trackways in Matts I'm sure we could squeeze down to that in the mx5's current state!

What's the yellow machine in the avatar? I thought you were just a mx5 nut....

Sounds good! It should definitely be capable of those sorts of times.

If you want any geo numbers as a baseline just give me a shout, the Westy in my avatar is mine and has had a lot of track development. Its for sale though, got to the point where I can't develop it much further without spending megabucks, so have a new toy to tinker with instead now.

Thanks Adam may well take you up on that! It looks like a machine, just watched a few laps of bkyton so that will give me something to aim for!

Just secured a Pace Products dry sump kit for this which should aid any clearance issues we face now.

Dan, if you are putting the car through IVA, those indicators will probably fail.

I know one of the lads passed this year with similar, but I believe it was only with a bit of luck! Something to do with angles of visibility from the front I seem to recall.

Thanks for the heads up, from my understanding and speaking to Westfield it won't need an IVA, I just have to apply for a chassis change with the dvla and retain the current no.plate etc.

If not there will be a number of things I will have to change!

Ah OK. I guess the factory will have done it as a replacement with the chassis numbers off the scrapped one then.

That should be easier!
