Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted May 20, 2014 Share Posted May 20, 2014 Welcome Ben, the MX5 SDV car is a cracking kit; it makes a great all round Westfield, it's why they're so popular! You'll find their are a couple of specialist insurance companies that sponsor the club and offer discounted rates to members; in particular Claire and her colleagues at A Plan have given many members really fantastic service. You're right, building is a fantastically rewarding experience, though it's not the cheapest route to owning a Westfield, it does mean you'll know your car intimately, which helps keep the running costs down once it's built. There's a host of info on the Boardroom that can help at all stages of the build and afterwards once it's on the road. In addition, local meets, now the summers here and cars have come out of hibernation, are great places for a chat and picking up ideas. Plus you have the advantage of not being too far from the factory. I am not too far away from you either. Get along to some local meets and as the weather pics up you should see some different cars. I think they are trying to reduce the number of chassis options available so it may well be the Mazda chassis is the some or compatible with other engines. Prawnabie Posted May 20, 2014 Share Posted May 20, 2014 Hello and welcome... Im not to far from you in Bromsgrove, although I work in Willenhall. I collected a mazda starter kit at the end of feb, this weekend should see it off the build stands and onto the floor for the first time! The only difference as between the Mazda chassis and the standard chassis as far as I know is mountings for the standard airbox by the steering rack and a tab welded above the pedal box for the charcoal canister. The diff mounts to two frames bolted to the wishbone mounts and one half of the standard sierra diff mounts. If you wanted to put a zetec in later down the line there would be no problem.
