  1. For sale is my MX5 Mk1 1.8. The car was put together as a roadgoing competition car, suitable for ‘standard class’ Hillclimb, Sprint, Autosolo, MX-5 Challenge, etc. It is also a brilliant track day car and can reel in much more powerful cars, especially in the wet. Spec: 1.8 engine with induction kit, free-flow tubular manifold, cat delete and single box sports exhaust (all stainless). Lightened flywheel. Meister R suspension properly set up with track geometry. Polybushed suspension. PAS delete with quicker manual rack. Standard 1.8 brakes with M1144 pads all round. Enkei lightweight wheels. Monaco race seat with 6 point harness (standard passenger seat). Roll bar. Recent new radiator and hoses. The car has been lightened within ‘standard roadgoing’ regs, so retains dashboard, door cards, etc. but the cloth roof and mechanism has been replaced with a lighter (easily removable) hardtop. Cosmetically, the car looks OK from a distance but the paintwork is faded mis-matched and has flaking lacquer. There is a large dent on the rear NS quarter (Madgwick corner at Goodwood!). The current engine was put in a couple of years ago from lower mileage donor following a main bearing failure of the original tuned engine. A new clutch was installed, so has done less than 1,500 miles. A new MX5 Parts release bearing was fitted which annoyingly squeaks when cold, but this disappears when warm. Time has not allowed the race engine to be rebuilt, but it will be included in the sale. It has a ported, polished and skimmed head which really pulls through to the red line. Pistons and block good (still show honing marks) and a good replacement crank and bottom end. Just requires main bearing shells and putting together. Alternatively, the race head could be put on the current engine. MOT until 26.10.21 and owned by myself since August 2016. If you are looking for a low-cost competition car, or a properly set up MX5 for trackdays, this car will tick the boxes. £1,600
  2. Hi All. New to the forum and hopefully picking up my Westfield tomorrow. So I need the garage space which means the MX5 must go. £800 for quick sale. MX5 Eunos Roadster 1.8i It has been in a garage for over a year. (Will be put under a car cover from tomorrow). New battery installed and started first time. 180k KM No MOT and on SORN. 1.8 engine pretty standard, don't think there are any modifications. Drives well. Engine and gearbox seems sound. Alloy wheels and space saver. Lights all work fine. Dials all work fine. Electric windows work fine. Immobiliser. It had a new radiator fitted as the old one sprung a leak. Bad Bits: Rust is starting to appear at the rear of the sills. Roof really needs replacing, Rear window badly broken and a slight hole in the fabric next to the window. (See pictures - Rest of roof is ok) Rubber has started to perish on roof seals. Stereo does not work. Inside needs a good clean. Needs a good polish. Not fitted: Spare roof mechanism and engine strut bar if needed. This would make a good donor or with a little effort a good summer car. If I had the time and space I would get it on the road again but my attentions will be on the new Westfield. Any questions or info i have missed let me know. auryn.hughes@gmail.com Located Mid wales, Llansantffraid-ym-mechain (Not far from Oswestry - 8 miles, 25 miles to Shrewsbury) Buyer collect.
  3. Camber adjustable top front wishbones, with sleeve nut and washer. No more removing the ball joint from the upright to make adjustments, just loosen the lock nut and set the camber perfectly to the exact setting you are looking for. These use the same BMW ball joint as the standard wishbones. To the best of my knowledge Westfield only ever made 5 sets of these and they are now discontinued. This was the very first set made. These are new, all bushes fitted but never fitted to the car. There some light storage marks, these are painted that her than powder coated and otherwise are like new. Difficult to price since no longer available but a new pair of standard upper wishbones are £277.20 so hows £200 posted? -SOLD subject to payment PM or email me at wsccessex@btinternet.com

SOLD - 2009 Westfield Mazda SDV

After a great deal of deliberation I have come to the difficult decision to sell my Westfield as I believe that someone else should now have the enjoyment of driving her. I always swore that I would never sell, but after 12 years of ownership I'm finding that I'm now using it less and less and instead favouring my other cars. I am the first and only owner having built the car myself over a period of approximately 10months between May 2008 and February 2009. SVA having been passed first time in February 2009 and First Registration April 2009. The chassis was fabricated by Westfield in 2007 and was originally allocated to Kit Car Magazine for a magazine build, however when this failed to materialise the unstarted kit was stored at the factory until being sold to myself. Fitting of all Aluminium panels, brake lines and fuel lines had already been completed by Westfield prior to my purchase. The donor car for the build was a 1990 Mazda MX5 with approx 75,000 miles on the clock bought as a pallet donor from MX5 Heaven, the braking system was all bought new. After two years of use on the road the engine was stripped and fully rebuilt by MX5 guru Fraser White of Blink Motorsport. I built the car predominantly for touring and spirited road driving hence the modest performance figures but don't let this put you off, with a kerb weight of only 582kg the 130bhp power (dyno plot available) is very tractable delivering good torque and power around the mind-range just when you need it and is more than adequate for a b-road blast. I've never been interested in track-days however I have completed 12 sprints. During my ownership the car has always run faultlessly, and never left me at the roadside, Having confidence in my build it's first journey was the 150mile round trip to Norwich for the SVA test and then only two months after registration It clocked 1000 miles to LeMans for the 24Hr. Current mileage is presently about 12,000 since build. When I was researching the different kits and my personal spec I wanted the simplicity of build using a single donor and for the drivetrain and a modern fuel injected engine. I had strong feelings about the Mazda clocks and dashpod which Westfield had designed to be used with this kit however I instead wanted an interior look and feel that mimics Westfield's modular build range of cars, so modifications were made to enable the standard westfield dashboard to be used. Chassis and Body 2007 Mazda SDV Aluminium lowered floor pans Westfield Full ZK bodywork in Crimson Detachable rear arches Chrome options pack Heated windscreen PPG Paint protection film to rear arches Standard boot box Standard range fuel tank (approx 150miles range when touring) Boot tonneau cover Full tonneau cover Hood and doors Space saver spare wheel Westfield sport seats Willans 4-point harnesses with Twist buckle fastening Crystal halogen headlamp lens conversion Smiths Telemetrix instruments and pro-sport programable tacho and shift lights Textured vinyl dashboard (i've never seen another like it) Suspension Gaz Coil overs Geometry and corner weighted by Andy Bates AB Performance (set-up sheets included) Brake calipers, discs and pads are standard Mazda and were all bought new for the build (no refurbished calipers or second hand pads) Wheels and tyres The car is currently fitted with and has been set up for 14x6" Wheels wearing Yokohma A-021R tyres. These I find suit the car very well for touring and wet grip. Engine & Drivetrain 1600cc Mazda B6 (1990 Mk5 Donor) Full engine rebuild by Fraser White Blink Motorsport in 2011 +20 Overbore Crank Scraper Cometic Head gasket Sump Baffle Skimmed head 3-angle valve seats Matched fuel injectors AFM spring modification Engine produced 130bhp (approx 108bhp at wheels) tested by Atspeed (see plots) Westfield 4-1 Exhaust manifold (this car was used by Westfield for development of the prototype manifold) Westfield 6.5" Stainless steel Cat silencer (approx 91-93dB on track) Mazda 5-speed gearbox 4.3 ratio V-LSD Limited Slip Differential Coolex Aluminium Radiator Coolant re-route Carbon canister deleted Mazda B63H ECU and fully functioning diagnostics connector for fault finding Paperwork An MoT test was carried out just before the car was laid up SORN for the winter with no advisories. This is valid until 2nd November 2020. A comprehensive folder of receipts, build history and a CD of photographs will be provided with the car. This car has wanted for nothing during my ownership and has always been maintained regardless of cost. It will be a sad day when sold but realistically it seems a shame to have a car that is only doing 200 miles a year. Viewings are more than welcome and passenger rides available to serious and prospective buyers if the weather is favourable. Please no time wasters, dreamers or opportunists, I am open to sensible discussions about the price and spares I have but not until you have viewed in person. £10,750 - NOW SOLD The car is located in Colchester, Essex Any enquiries please either PM me via the forum or email me at wsccessex@btinternet.com Mark

Mazda MX5 1.6 cut and shortened sump

Just removed from my SDV, as it has a slight weep that I've been unable to trace. I suspect it may be from one of the welds but I did notice that the sump plug washer also had split. The sump has been shortened by approx 1" and the bottom plate is 5mm thick aluminium so it's got some protection from Knicks and bangs. The oil pickup pipe has also been modified and will be included. I've now switch back to a standard sump hence now selling. Yours for £25 and I can post at cost if required, I think this will be about £16 due to the weight (6kg) or I can wrap if you want to send a courier yourself.

    Gear shift pattern

Now don't shoot me for asking what on the face of it is a seemingly stupid question, but what is the shift pattern in my Sport 250's MX5 5 speed gearbox? I've never driven or been in an MX5 and a quick "google" just confused me further as i have no working clutch yet and the nice silver gear-knob for WF is of no help.
  7. I am selling my Son's MX5 Mk1 'Dakar', 1997 with 125K miles. The MOT is up on 27th April and it will require the usual repairs to the sills and some other bits to fix. My Son no longer requires the car so will sell as it is. The car has been in the family for the last 5 years and has been 100% reliable. There is a file of history and it had new discs and pads, plus Avon ZV7 tyres all round last year. It has a Mongoose Stainless exhaust and leather seats. Overall it is clean and tidy apart from rust on the sills, front of wings and some on the windscreen pillars. More pictures available on request. Located in Grove, Oxfordshire The car would make a great run around with the MOT work done, or donor / track car. Asking £300. Call 07767255036 or PM
  8. Having a bit of a garage clearout I have the following MX5 parts for sale that will fit the Mazda SDV Pair of rear uprights, hubs and bolt on driveshafts for a 1.6 (non ABS) = £50 Pair of rear push-in driveshafts from a 1.8 = £25 Shortened and balanced propshaft to suit Mazda SDV's fitted with 1.8 diff - 700mm long (approx 605mm between gearbox oil seal and diff flange). = £100 (no offers) NOW SOLD Pair of 13" Weller, round hole steel wheels MX5 fitment (4x100) fitted with Avon cut Slicks 180/530 R13. These are IMO still useable, but showing signs of cracking on the tread. The overall width of the tyres is approx 8" so I will guess at these being a 7" wide rim. = £25 I would prefer collection in person from Colchester, however I can also bring to the Speed Series Awards doo, post at cost (except the wheels) by parcelforce or wrap for your courier to collect. PM or email me at wsccessex@btinternet.com Mark

    Mk 1 MX5 parts wanted.

Folks, I already have a 'wanted' in for a complete car, but as I'm only really after a few bits off one, may as well ask that question as well. I don't know which of these parts (other than the uprights obviously) are normally used on a Mazda SDV build so have no idea what my luck is likely to be with this. So, from an '89-'97 car please. All 4 uprights with brakes. Power steering rack Steering Column complete with switchgear shroud wheel etc Would also ideally want at least part of the loom that connects to the switchgear, unless anyone knows where suitable connectors can be had. Handbrake lever and cables Petrol filler neck Seats if in OK condition, not too garish a colour Brake and clutch pedal assemblies complete Possibly even the wheels? Thanks for looking. Chris

    Donor disposal

Hi all, Finally managed to finish stripping out my donor mx5. 2 questions: Is there anything in particular I need to do to dispose of the body so I don't have difficulty with the IVA at a later date? (Remove the VIN plate for instance?) Has anyone had a donor body taken away by anyone in the Birmingham area they can reccommend? Cheers! Andrew

    MX5 3.9 LSD

Hi all, I'm back home in Ireland for Christmas and stumbled across someone selling two mx5 diffs from 6 speed cars. I've bought the 3.6 for myself but he's got a 3.9 there too. I know these are pretty hard to come by so if anyone is looking for one, I can pick it up and take it back across on the ferry when I'm going back to work. I paid 400 euro for the 3.6 with prop shaft and drive shafts. I'd imagine the cost for the 3.9 will be pretty similar. As I said I can take it back across to Birmingham for anyone interested. Cheers, Andrew
  13. Ever since selling my Narrow project car last year, this has been taking up room and gathering dust in the back of the garage so finally it's time for it to go. This is it's brief history and spec. The engine is ex Andy Burge who campaigned it in the Ma5da racing series, carrying him to one win and a second place in the 2009 season. It reportedly made 128bhp at the wheels when on the rolling road in March 2008 (see original ebay advert below) although I haven't proved that figure and I would suggest it would actually be more realistic if measured as a flywheel figure. His car was unfortunately rolled in an accident at Brands Hatch, after which Andy decided to take a step back from racing for a while and stripped his MX5 for parts and selling the engine. I paid £220 for the engine in June 2010 and initially I had the intention to use it as a spare for my car when I was having some problems myself, I fully stripped the engine to inspect it and then spent over £200 servicing it, replacing all the seals and gaskets. Eventually I decided to have my old engine rebuilt by Fraser at Blink so this one made it's way first into my Narrow car and then out again when that car was sold last year. The list of the main work completed by me includes: Crank pulley bolt and woodruff key Crankshaft front and rear oil seal Thermostat, Thermostat gasket and cover Clutch spigot bearing Head gasket Cam angle sensor o-ring Cam belt tensioner and spring Cambelt Water pump gasket Oil pump gasket Head gasket Camshaft oil seals The original work to the cylinder head before I bought it includes a 40thou skim to increase the compression and 3-angle cut to the valve seats. The thermostat has been relocated to the back of the head and the front outlet blocked off as I was originally intending to fit a coolant re-route. The engine could easily be converted back to the standard coolant layout. The engine is an early short nose crank and fitted with the 4-slot pulley. There is no sign of any wear to the keyway or woodruff key which is a common problem if the crank pulley bolt has been incorrectly torqued in the past. As a precaution I always fit a new key and bolt whenever stripping the front of the engine and then re-torque correctly. In checking over the engine before this sale I found that one of the exhaust valves on cylinder 4 was sticking in it's guide. As I couldn't be sure if this was a consequence of the engine having been standing for a while or whether it had a slight bend in it I therefore replaced both the valve and also the stem seal. I'm also including with the engine the inlet and exhaust manifolds as I have no use for them, but I'll point out that the metal gaskets have been re-used and therefore may need to be replaced if they don't seal correctly. The engine also comes with the flywheel, clutch, injectors, injector loom and CAS sensor but excludes the alternator, alternator bracket, starter motor and oil pressure sender (although I should have one for it somewhere if I can find it). As I've never run the engine whist I've owned it I'm also happy to accept returns from WSCC members and will offer a full refund to them (excluding any delivery costs) should there be any problems found with the engine. £250 collection only from Colchester, Essex - no offers please sorry now sold
  14. I bought two packs when building thinking a box per side. It turns out a box covers both sides so I've a box left over. Brand new never out of the box. Very easy to fit to give a nice firm new bushing to improve the handling at the rear (the only place that uses a Mazda bush rather than the Westfield part) Fits upper, outer, rear wishbone/upright. P/n PFR36-112 £15

  17. Due to a change of plans I'm putting this up for sale It's a rare 3.6 ratio type-2 Torsen Torque biasing diff. Please ignore the fact it has 3.9 written on the carrier, i've counted to teeth on the crown wheel and pinion and it's definitely 3.6 Most MX5's came with either a 4.3 or 4.1 ratio diff, the 3.6 was only found on the 6-speed cars. Comparing with a 4.3 ratio this will give you an engine speed of approx 3100rpm in 5th gear at 70mph rather than 3600rpm. First gear will also be longer increasing from approx 30mph to 37mph @ 6200rpm. 60mph in second gear would now be possible. Further reading here http://www.miata.net/garage/diffguide/ http://www.torsen.com/products/products.htm http://www.flyinmiata.com/tech/gearing.php Visually the diff is in very good condition, I have removed the carrier to inspect the gear surfaces and there is no evidence of chips or damage. The diff has been reassembled, but is currently not filled with oil. For those that have the smaller diff fitted to the 1.6 cars (identifiable by having no torque damper on the diff nose and bolt on driveshafts) I also have spare a pair of push in driveshafts and a shortened prop of the correct length for a Westfield which I would sell with the diff. I'm offering this for sale at £300 for the diff only or £400 with the shafts and prop which is a lot less than I paid for it. I'm afraid it's too heavy for me to post, but I'm happy to wrap it for you to send your own courier or else collection in person from Colchester CO6 Thanks Mark wsccessex@btinternet.com

    Shortened Mazda MX5 gear lever

Approx 15-20mm shorter than a standard gear lever. I had this modified to give a bit better clearance to the dashboard but in the end i opted not to use it. The material was all removed from the centre of the lever where it is at it's largest diameter and then-welded. £12 and happy to post to you at cost

    Mazda MX5 Gearbox

Standard 5-speed MX5 gearbox in good condition The PPF frame mounting has been modified and removed to provide better clearance between the box and chassis rails in the Westfield. Collection only, but I can wrap it up for you if you want to send your own courier for it. Only £30 PM or email me wsccessex@btinternet.com
  20. Ok guys, time to start the build thread. Any advice and tips welcome P clips and rivets arrived from Westfield today, as well as a new Clutch Master cylinder. This enabled me to start fitting the fuel lines. 2 are complete and the third line is all bent ready to fit, but need some more P clips, Westfield sent me loads of brake line clips instead of fuel line clips, so now need to get some more clips before I can fix the last fuel line. Then I think I will be able to flip her over and start getting into it!
