  1. Things seems to be coming together quite nicely, if a little slower than planned on the car front. It is running though, and have dyno on Tuesday: Hoping no more than a month to get it road legal now Also been up to Scotland this week and completed 4 consecutive days of Munro-bagging, each of them 'bigger' and considerably more technical than Ben Nevis. Day 3 was a killer, equivalent in distance and elevation change to doing the easiest route up (and down) Snowdon 3 times! Conditions up there are kind though, with little snow even over 1000m, so it looks like I've picked a good year!

  3. After checking a few wires I'm hoping I've cured the issue, slightly loose connection to the oil pressure switch. Its now sitting at 4 bar cold at idle dropping to 2 bar when at temp and 3.5 at around 3000rpm. Apologies for the dumb arsed questions but this is a new venture for me and been a complete novice to kit cars its a learning curve, to be honest I've avoided working on cars in general for years as i find them far to complicated, give me a mk2 escort with a X flow as a road car any day. Any idea on tyre pressures?

  4. A little surprise waiting for you in the car park yesterday hey @aeg Have a lovely birthday today and well done to Becky for keeping all these secrets and organising all these wonderful things for you to do. We thoroughly enjoyed your birthday too and were very glad that you were not wearing a granny frock and wig for this one hey @IanK (Bagpuss) What a fantastic club this is to meet such wonderful people XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  5. MOT'd the Westie today, passed with no advisories, although the clutch slave cylinder needs a new set of seals, slight leak. 3,997 miles over the last 12 months, compared with 3,807 miles in my road car.

  6. Managed to fit the Vbox from my other car so I’ll have something to compare against coming from a 370hp/1300kg M3. I best pass noise regs

  7. Cant argue with that! We need to find a suitable day for when the "broken duratec" club get back on their feet.

  10. Thought you would have sorted the breather pipe @Trevturtle, nothing stays broken for long on your car. Made myself laugh then, I have got that used to calling you trevtrouble that I tried to type it and wondered why it didn't pick you up on the tag . See we are missing you already and it's not even tomorrow yet. I am booking a table for 5 in approx 2 hours, unless there are anymore?

  12. It is, specially when you’ve just been doing it yourself. Funny the way he was getting steadily more and more rusty crud in his face, I know the feeling only to well!

  13. Watched yesterday, it’s quite different to Binky, but for those of us sad enough to be wearing BoM onesies while outside working on our cars, it was good fun! The production values are way more like the very early Binky episodes, before they got as slick as they are now, but it’s a measure of both guys, that their presenting style and personalities still shines through, and in my opinion carries it off - though you might want to reach for the volume control when they’re driving the Cargo to the weighbridge, it’s hideously loud in that thing, and sounds awful!

  15. Well for road use I would try using 20 psi, then drop it to 18 and see what the difference in feel is. You will in all probability find the lower pressure gives more feel, and when the tyres are warm more grip. On track I don't think that many people using that tyre size would use more than 18psi. Remember if those pressures sound very low, that you have a very light car on quite big tyre footprints. Also, as the tyres warm up the pressure rises. Hence track pressures tend to be a bit lower than road use.

  18. 18 to 20 psi, depending on tyre size and type, for normal road use.

  19. Don't be so negative. Even failed politicians are recognised in the Brussels community. Would you want to throw away an opportunity so lucrative? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/labour/5533081/Kinnocks-have-six-state-pensions-worth-185000-per-year-says-think-tank.html

  22. Thank you julie, that's great. I feel very lucky indeed! I love the roads of the peak district. I live in glossop right on the end of the snake pass, I'm still finding hidden gems after living there 7 years! Just need the car to match the roads now!

  24. Already well know in here, but mine is called The Wench because it’s loud, opinionated, likes it rough, smokes a bit, drinks like a fish, hates being ignored, takes all my money, and if you’re inside her for more than an hour your back hurts and your bum goes numb. It was chosen by Lady Colonial.

  26. Slightly off topic but a bit of fun, I tried the Aviva Drive app on track for a laugh. I was hoping to get a terrible score, much to my confusion I got many 'good driving' badges including the smooth driver badge. I was pulling over a 1G on corners and braking so no idea how it was judged as smooth!

  27. I’ll await confirmation, but to my knowledge the marker is to gauge the level rather than capacity. So if you had a bigger sump the capacity would obviously increase if filled to the same level - and decrease for a smaller sump. The level marker is (again wait until someone else confirms this) to keep the oil at the correct level relative to the crank. I use a Scholar sump in my Blacktop Zetec that is effectively a shortened and baffled all-alloy sump (off a silvertop) and I’ve always used the std dipstick markers with no ill effects to the engine.
