  1. Here is my favorite picture at the moment, from the "Fleur De Lys Classic Vehicle Society" 6th July 2018 which was my first ever show as the car had been on the road about 4 days

  2. As promised, here is the follow up! Trip out on Saturday went really well. Over 4 hours driving with no issues. 'Rubbed' the road surface a few times but didn't hit it hard like before and this will be resolved by raising the rear slightly - I did set it up on the low side. One comment on my post expressed concern about needing to compress the springs - this was only the front Westfield supplied springs and I only needed to compress them slightly in order to fit the retaining ring. The rear heavier duty springs fitted without the need of my staircase cramps to compress them. The comments received on Saturday were complimentary with only one suggestion - to fit collets or spacers in the ARB drop links to take up the space between the rod ends and the brackets. This is an easy adjustment so I will get stainless washers and pop them in. The intention is to get the car corner weighted and set up properly by a specialist and I will do this when the weather is a bit more predictable so I can enjoy the drive to either Northampton or Thetford Now the photo of the finished front suspension - Next job is to get my Image Split Rims tidied up but this will probably have to wait till next November!

  3. Echo Julies comments, was lovely to catch up with few people, and a great day out, even if I checked out and caged a life with Barry Think GBS are a great bunch of people for putting this on, and deserve our support - and the cakes were excellent

  4. Wow, what a fantastic turn out today, I love catching up with everyone so thank you all for coming along. It very much felt like a Westfield gathering as we had so many members come, padded out with the Burton Car Club it has been a very sociable day, brilliant. There was a distinctive lack of Zeros though, which is a shame for the factory when they put so much effort in to the open day. Meeting at McD's was Syman84 with young Archie and a very young Olivia in tow, that's what I call making it happen against the odds, so well done there. BillyPee, Santa Andrew and Elf Clare, then from the Burton CC were Michael and Martin in the Ferrari and Alan in the Cobra. We drove in a very unusual convoy of tin tops and mixed kit cars the short journey to GBS. We were soon joined by Dave and Ian in their Westfields, then Des and Debs, BugMan Steve, Barry, Rebecca and Andy, Martyn and Sue and Chris all in their tin tops. That made for 17 members of our club all in one place. The sun came out and the wind dropped making for a very pleasant day. RobinRedSpider was a complete lightweight and stayed in bed recovering from his hangover, but we shouldn't mention that should we At GBS Santa Andrew and Elf Clare Batman Santa Dave and Ian arrived Bagpuss on the bonnet Sunshine is great unless you want a photo The Germanic BBQ, these people are the most wonderful family. Dave tucked in too, they were very tasty sausages, covered in currywurst sauce and served with fresh cobs The GBS crew made us very welcome as ever, with the German Sausage man and his family filling us up from his BBQ. There was warmed red wine and German Beer on offer for non-drivers. Then it was inside for the cake moment, Rebecca was torturing herself deciding whether to have lemon or chocolate cake 'follow me' I said, we will have both and some of those mini Christmas puddings too. Next Simon lost his car keys, well in charge of 2 kiddies you sort of have a lot on your plate. 'They will be in your car', and they were, of course they were, but we won't mention that either stick to winning Novice championships Simon. The boy racer fraternity arrived on their way from Mansfield to Newcastle on a charity run, not the sort of behaviour that gives sports car drivers a good name, but wow, what pretty girlfriends they had, I am talking model good looks with figure, hair and skimpy dresses to go with it. Glen is complaining that I didn't get any photos of them but I am sure somebody did. Next I rang the windmill place to book us a table and they said they were very busy. It is a small place and very popular so you must book in advance. Not to worry, plan B was engaged and we went to the Antiques centre, which is always a winner. Martyn and Sue, Chris, Andrew and Clare in another strange convoy came with us on the short journey for lunch. 'Cos we needed lunch!!! Santa Andrew and Elf Clare, gutted that they can't make our Santa Run in 2 weeks time so they were having their own today, good on you. Good job that Glen had invited Kevin then! with his windswept hair The cafe has a lovely outdoor seating area, but it had started raining by now and we sat inside, but in the summer it will be ours The spitfire picture is for sale, it is pressed tin. (Hip flask engaged) For sale is the Flying Scotsman picture, also pressed tin The chatting and catching up of car news carried on over jam and cream scones Chris, eating Nottinghamshire Bread, well that's what he is telling Mo when he gets home (it's nearly as healthy as Yorkshire Salad (chips)) And Martyn too So there we have it, a cracking day out, the driving was pants but the company more than made up for it. It rained all the way home and it was almost dark when we got back. We are back in the Peak District, land of wonderful roads, next weekend with the Ice Cream run, see you there.

  7. It's pretty hard to get a decent photo, but here you go It has got a couple of scratches on it as I have photographed. Basically it is a standard Westfield ZK body crashpad that I stripped down and then it got laid up with carbon by Julian Eisel It is one of a kind as far as I know. He said it was so hard to do he would never do another!

  10. Very smart set up on the front. Sounds like the rear has been "tamed" to the benefit of your back and other parts of your anatomy . Thanks for follow up and photo.

  11. @RobP I think this may vary with the manufacturer of your ARB. Just popped out and measured the Westfield ones that I have taken off - M8 RH threads with a 7.5mm bore reduced with collets to 5.5mm. The Plays-Kool ones now fitted are different hence hesitation in giving you a straight answer. I also believe that you can get drop down links with RH and LH threads so you can adjust by turning the link. Have a chat with Luke at Plays-cool armed with the make of your ARB and he will be able to help.

  12. Good write up and very informative. I'm just in the process of overhauling my suspension. Please could you advice what size the rod ends are on the ARB drop links? Mine need replacing.

  19. Really enjoyed myself last night, varied and strange conversations about a train journey by a drunken football fan - something about CO2 and popping and banging Fiestas - me being volunteered to drill a hole in a crankshaft- a Kentish man who drinks lager tops. For those who didn’t make it back to The Swan for our second drinking session, you missed the gay girl stripping of and showing us her tattoos and piercings. Typical night out for Essex Boyz I reckon.

  20. There is a recession coming because as mentioned the cycle is about every 10 years, except austerity may play a part so it may not be as bad as predicted as pricing, interest rates, wages etc have been depressed for quite a long time What will happen is that Brexit will get the blame no matter what deal or no deal we end up leaving with and I'm for a no deal WTO exit. We are net importers of stuff. We are the 5th biggest economy in the world and we have money to spend. WTO says we can buy from anywhere we choose, the EU says we can't. If we can buy "Product X" from anywhere maybe we can buy it cheaper than we could by following EU rules. This could help lessen the effects of any recession as we may be able to keep the price of goods down. Democracy in action...
