  13. The one mentioned is the one to go for, unless you have some specific other need. The toilet/washing/showering facilities are superb and plentiful, and maintainance teams operate 24 hours a day while the event is on. There is a food and a small store on site. There are regular, (every ten or twenty minutes) shuttle links that run all round the camp site, taking you back to the main site entrance, from where there are again, regular bus links to the main Silverstone Circuit entrances. All the shuttle services are free. And you’re so close, it doesn’t take long to get in. It’s not far if you just want to walk round, either. Typically, those of us with Westfields drive in to the in-field parking on day one, leave the car there and then drive out on the last day you plan to be there. (Driving in, it gets VERY busy, and can take longer than you’d think, even to go the short distance from the campsite to the in-field). Note vehicle movements to and from the in-field are not normally allowed after around ten o’clock. A further Admin note: in-field parking is a bonus awarded to car clubs to enable them to display a selection of the vehicles that the Club Represents, it is NOT a convenient place for Westfield or any other owners that have arrived in random tin tops, to park up for the weekend. It is for Westfields of what ever model you own. In-field club parking does have restricted numbers across the site as a whole, even though it may look like there is lots of room. WE are part of the display for the weekend, that is our half of the bargain when we agree to go in as a club. There have been complaints from at least one other club in a previous year, when they didn’t have enough room for their own members (proper display) cars, and yet we had a members tin top on our pitch.

  16. I have done it, albeit a couple of decades ago, and if I'm honest we took too many risks , on Ben Nevis in a whiteout (in May!) suddenly realising you are two meters from a big drop! Only really finding the summit due to a fortunate but short lived clearing in the weather. Be prepared to turn back and/or wait for the weather. Forget about doing it at your own pace, you want 3 ideally that want to stick together, top of Ben Nevis in April, and sometimes Snowdon too, not places I'd recommend you go on your own (maybe Alfascozzesi will do Ben Nevis with you as a guide!) Easy routes or not, map reading skills and some practise runs essential, you can get very lost on any of the three. Jim

  17. Very good! It's impossible to find a real race car that does not have some kind of heel brace and there's good reason for this. One of the biggest changes a driver can make to aid car control is to solidly hold their entire body as securely as possible so that they can control all the steering, brake and throttle inputs with great precision and subtly. This means a firm seat that does not bounce up and down, firm close fitting side bolsters, proper 5 point belts to hold the hips and torso securely in the firm seat and of course heel braces that keep the feet from sliding fore/aft on the floor. I've set up many of my own race cars over the years and helped friends set up there cars - everything from Boxsters to Atoms and a proper heel rest/brace is a real game changer. You don't know what you're missing until you try it and then you'll want one on every car you drive. They are more than worth the small effort to make. The lower the butt is compared to the feet the bigger difference it makes. dave

  21. My daily is a sh*tbox Corsa 1.2! Cheap to run and fix, and negligible depreciation. Bought it for a grand, previous OAP owner, it's done under 60k, and five years later I'd probably get a grand for it! We live 7-mins from my work and the car barely gets up to temp, so no use having something flash to ruin. But never content to have a bog-standard car, I shouted it a sporty exhaust and 195/50-15's.

  23. I'm in the USA so the car is left hand drive and therefore there is no way to install the left foot rest into the side panel. So I've done two things. First is that there is an adjustable foot rest that catches the edge of ball of my left shoe. It's adjustable fore/aft and for angle. I knew I'd never get it just right so I made it adjustable. It does a great job of letting the foot relax while cruising and never gets in the way while using the clutch. Secondly I made a heel rest for both feet. It's made of 1" x 1/4" aluminum bar and bent into shape. It allows me to brace my feet very securely while cornering and braking....and at the same time I can operate the throttle and brake with great modulation with my right heel braced against the heel rest. It is amazing how much difference the heel rest made for both comfort and for car control when driving at the limit. Without it it seemed impossible for me to have subtle throttle control while my heel slid around on the floor so my inputs tended to be jerky and anything but subtle. But once I made the heel rest I could brace my heel on it and then with great control meter out throttle and brake inputs. I tried driving without it after having it in place for some time and it felt so jerky and insecure. I think there are lots of ways to do this for sure and no doubt mine is not the best way....but that said it will help so much in terms of comfort and car control I strongly suggest that you try making one. dave
