  1. I class it as my daily, however I use pedal power to get me to and from work. Doing my bit for the environment and also, so that I can eat and drink what I want Oh and here's the pic!

  2. The S2000 you'd get for the starter kit price plus engine/box and wheels would be a lot more basic than you might think. Unless it's changed from when I first looked, some of the parts in the starter kit were very basic versions of parts that almost all buyers upgrade without thinking, seats spring to mind. That's not to say the car you'd get for that amount wouldn't be excellent dynamically, and form a very, very good building block for further development as funds allow. The following applies to any build of course, but you need to decide on what you're aiming for with the build. Do you want to put a good "work-a-day" kit together, (reliable, no frills) or do you want to achieve something that looks like a new car. The factory for instance, on their S2000 builds do no standard cosmetic work on the engines and boxes other to give them a basic clean; which is why you'll sometimes see the immaculate new Mega S2000's there, and when you remove the bonnet, the first thing you see is Honda's peely powdercoat on the cam cover! The drivetrain still works just as well though! (And realistically, if the factory did what some of us as home builders do in this department, the labour and parts bill could add a considerable amount). Considerations typically overlooked in price calculations include things like giving the engine/box a spruce up and replacing consumables like the clutch. For those like me, that stripped the ancillaries of the engine to paint it and refresh the gaskets, you're looking in the region of £400 for fresh gaskets and seals to re-build, likewise most pop a new clutch assembly in there, average is probably around £300 give or take. Add £40/50 for a sump baffle plate plus welding. Then there's getting cam covers powder coated... I bet I had little change from a grand, just prepping the engine and box for fitment, by the time you add paints, fluids etc. On the other hand, as Sycho said, if you're prepared to "break" a whole S2000 yourself, you can save large amounts and gain an effectively free engine and box.

  3. As you have realised those options soon add up & before you know it's £20,000 plus. I managed to build mine to a good spec for sub £18,000 but that was by just having a basic starter kit & sourcing all the parts myself, some from WF & some from other suppliers. But the thing that save my the most was I bought cat c s2000 & broke it, so the engine & box cost me nothing.

  4. The Gbs has developed over the years and has almost caught up with Westfield, but that's still a big almost,,,,compairing residual values and overall looks coupled with a smaller range of companies offering aftermarket support, parts and development it is as you say a bit of a no brainer to go with Westfield

  8. Firstly Agreed. A new numberplate is only new for so long and is a (n incorrect) hint about value. A Q plate has many advantages - see above.

  10. These films were ok when there was one or 2 and they were quite novel, they're wearing a bit thin now with the Megashark vs Crocosaurus, Sand Sharks, Piranhaconda, 2-Headed Shark Attack ... Typical Americans, they take a funny, offbeat premise and milk until it dries up.

  11. My, blue is the popular colour this weekend isn't it? (Ian's car yesterday was blue too) Hidey Boo We briefly met Dave, who dropped a banner off for me, before we went to the car show, in a bid to at least get there and look at some cars before it started to rain. Sorry we could not talk for longer, damn weather. I hope it was worthwhile and you got home dry. We got to the show and put the roofs on straight away, knowing what was coming. Julie's dream vehicle, a soft top in the snow, just imagine how much fun that would be. Just need to save up about £30K. The future The past It was a fairly good turnout, but I suppose a lot of classics are a bit more watertight than a Westie. Emma joined us later in the tin top, after leaving last night's hen party, so well done girl for your dedication. You looked so fresh on a hangover, do tell me your secret one day. We discussed the possiblity of using the Wheatsheaf at Baslow as a future meeting place and it was another thumbs up. At 12.00 it started to spit with rain and that was our signal to leave. Today was short and sweet but we did it, better than defrosting the freezer, oh that reminds me...... Look out for next Sunday, it's the Cromford Steam Rally, not to be missed.

  14. The build of the Yeti was much more than just an engine transplant. The car was put together just up the road from me by John Danby Racing. They started out with a 2010 TT-RS and a 2005 Yeti into which much of the driveline and full wiring loom from the TT was transplanted. There's a few pictures of the build on their FB page https://www.facebook.com/groups/20778823574/photos/

  15. We can provide Protech dampers to suit any Westfield, if you would like to give me a call, I can let you know which dampers will fit your car. With regards to the pricing, on the Protech website the shocks are advertised at £85.00, but this is excluding VAT making it £408.00 for a set of 4.
