  2. Too many do-gooders saying" its not their fault, they need help not punishment" and "the prisons are already overcrowded". So what! put more in a cell , let them sleep on the floor and divide the same amount of food up into smaller portions..They are there for punishment after all! Make it so they never ever want to risk going back in there, not making it feel like home.

  6. As per request from OnliestSmeg, I have now updated the Drivers list with the Forum names in the hope you will be able to associate to the drivers a bit easier. If anybody wants their forum names removed, I can of course do this but I've not had any complaints as yet Updated Drivers List I hope this helps ? Tiggs

  7. I agree that 3 months is not really that long but I tend to spin the motor over without removing the plugs but with the ignition off (I have a separate switch for ignition / fuel pump which is handy for situations like this where I don't want the engine to fire up or flood the carbs - so much safer than pulling plug leads or wiring ) You can usually see good oil pressure on the starter motor alone after 10-15 seconds but I wouldn't do it for much longer as I'd feel sorry for the starter motor (and yes, taking the plugs out would help there). I've found the best plug spanner to be those with a flexible T bar handle and rubber insert (Laser tools do a few) - stops you over-tightening the plug and also makes it easy to withdraw the plug from the depths of the head http://www.lasertools.co.uk/item.aspx?item=102 - available most places online. If the tank is not full, top up with some fresh unleaded (supreme if you can?) - again, 3 months probably not an issue but modern petrol does seem to go off quickly. P.S - check your fuel hoses - I've come across some unbelievably split and disintegrating hoses recently (not on my Westie now but I did have a few years back) - was actually on our Rotavator and the hose was absolutely falling to pieces and the new petrol went everywhere - wouldn't like to see that on a car .........

  8. Mine needs a bit of a wind to start so it should build up some oil pressure on the starter, hopefully enough to wet the crank I think the thing in the top of the block is a non return valve, to stop the tappets (yes I'm still hydraulic) draining dry.

  9. There will. We have Mark's excellent paper/card Westfields for sale again this year and I hope Marcus can bring his Lego version too. We can display these on the table selling the card/Westfields as there will be plenty of Members around to keep an eye on things.

  12. Yeah just go for it, like I say, you might need to nurse it a bit for the first few minutes, and don't panic if it pops and bangs a bit. Just warm it on the drive for a few minutes, let the immediate fuel in the lines etc burn off, go for a bit of a drive, and as soon as you can get a couple of gallons in, top the tank off with fresh fuel. Don't labour the engine or drive it like you stole it(!) but do give it a good work out once it's up to temp, it'll help burn off all the stuff that builds up over time.

  15. a young lad who works for me fell asleep in his car and had an accident. No one hurt but long story short, against every request from CPS, the person who's car he ran into probation service, the judge jailed him for 9 months. He was in for 6 and when he came out he told me, that prison held no fear for him. It was easy apart from the boredom, food was good, everything was clean. When he needed to see a Doctor one was on site. His only discomfort was the internal examination when they were looking for Mobile Phones! and drugs being stored in cavities. People he was in with were career criminals who took the stay inside as a holiday, time to get super fit. So you can see why prisons hold no fear. In contrast a man I know who is the same age as my dad, was given the birch for petty theft. He had the marks to prove this but he told me and my Dad that there was no way he was getting anymore after the first lash, after IIRC it was 12 lashes, he would never do anything wrong again. He became a super man who turned his life around, which is the better more humane treatment for our criminals? As for overcrowding, sorry double or triple bunk, stop all niceties and have them breaking rocks. It cannot be right we treat our old and infirm to a 5 minute visit twice a day from a minimum pay Pole, whilst the scum get 24 hour round the clock temperature controlled care.

  17. Total scum, my mate who i work with just had his garage broke into and about £2500k of tools gone, they broke the roller door off at about 7p.m on a saturday and just let it fall onto the back of his 911. Police not interested. The week after our plasterer had some scroat throw a concrete slab from his back garden straight through his patio door glass, went inside and took all his deceased wifes jewelery. This was at 1.30 in the afternoon on a main road with neighbours either side, luckily the police did arrest 4 youths in a car with the jewelery and he got it all back, but the police say the chance of it even getting to court are slim!! It's not just their hands that need cutting off, stop em from breeding and dragging more scum up into the world!!!!

  22. First dibs please. Looks cheaper than removing my chrome ones and getting them powder coated. I am in Bristol so postage probably easier - unless you are going to the factory open say or another event?

  23. Today I went out for the day in Buttercup and as I went into Scarborough there was a long clear straight so I overtook a number of cars. As far as I was concerned I was within the speedlimit and indicated etc. After overtaking the cars I pulled into the petrol garage and started to fill up with fuel. Next thing I knew this chap pulled up alongside me and said " you just overtook me down the road". As soon as he said this, I thought there may be trouble but as far as I was concerned I had overtaken the cars safely. Anyway this chap only pulled into the garage to tell me how good he thought Buttercup sounded as we had overtaken him. It made my day and I thought it was really good of him to stop and tell me so.
