I'm very surprised this hasn't gone. I remember following the build thread with interest, and onyone who has done so knows that this is a reqlly well thought out and well put together car.

I think if you went the DIY route, you would be more likely to get a good finish by learning to wrap it yourself than trying to spray it yourself. Just my view from seeing mates try both over the years. And a wrap is much more forgiving if you get it wrong, peel it off and try again! Get good at the underlying preparation and I think doing a wrap yourself isn't too difficult.

Unless you rent a booth and do it yourself, not cheap. Even doing all the prep work themselves, the last time I saw someone quote a price on here, it was over £2k, possibly nearer £2.4k, I can’t remember. I know when I’ve asked paint places about doing the complete job in more recent times, low end has been £3k, high end, over £5k; but I soon realised they were talking show car finishes. Needless to say I passed. (Materials alone, with primer, base, clear coat on the first quote were the best part of a grand.) if you know someone in the trade, shop around etc, I’m sure you could get cheaper, and as I say, doing the initial strip, clean, fill and sand yourself, would help. Also, just for clarity, the quotes I got were from decent road car finishes (apart from the one that wanted to do show car stuff). If you opt for someone that will do a “race car” finish, ie looks good from a distance, not so much up close, then obviously it’s much cheaper. The other option is to have a go completely yourself. @corsechris achieved amazing results with ingenuity at home on his amazing Midlana.

@Ewanas an alternate to a full wrap, how about staying on the Lotus F1 theme but go with the Martin livery the team used on the 79 cars. using the livery as a base so you can strategically place stripes/decals over the blemishes in the gellcoat. Also takes the eye away from any nasty areas.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I think it looks brilliant in that green with the classic body. Are you sure that it couldn't be improved with a gentle cut and polish and just embrace the dings as part of the history?

Supposed to be dry, I can actually make Thursdays now so fingers crossed my first will be the last of the year, in the westie too if it is dry lol -
How about replacing all the bodywork? I went from the original blue to black with carbon highlights. Obviously you would loose the period look. Kenton

I may now have to rethink this project. Having decided on a JPS inspired theme of a gloss black car with gold (well, copper) decals, I had a possible design drawn up. But the cost has come in at approximately £3400 inc. Vat - which is too much for a project being done just for a bit of fun. Perhaps naively, and based on nothing in particular, I had thought it might have been around half that, given the diminutive size of the vehicle. Oh well. So, plan B, look at having it painted, and probably stick to a gloss dark green. Anyone have a ball-park idea of the cost to paint a Westy?

As long as the weather and health hold up – gotta keep doing it! It’s not gonna last forever… But while you can – just go for it! This clip’s actually 2× speed,:) but it still shows what’s I felt and what is awesome about kit cars – it’s not about the km/h, it’s all about the feeling. But I am sure You know that ! Way more intense than in any regular production fancy car!

I watched it on YouTube earlier, looks almost like your own personal hillclimb! Just makes me want to get the car out that does 👍

Hi A pair of Westfield 4 pot calibers along with EBC Green Stuff pads in good condition ... removed from my Megabusa when switched to Willwood radial units .. see photos for mount diamensions ... £175 + P&P at cost

Thanks for that. This was me experimenting this summer with a slightly cranked lever: It's hard to see from the angle but it does tuck under the dash a bit. With the size of the Westfield remote I do seem to have to choose between under the dash or reaching back a bit, at least with the lever with the amount of crank that I had. When the weather improves I'll experiment a bit more 😁

Type 9 Gear lever extension
Trevor Little (Trevturtle) replied to Ricky_B Joint Kent AO's topic in Parts Wanted
The Type 9 gear lever was bent as close to the bottom as possible. (Oxy acetylene heated to cherry red, then bent) Then the shaft was shortened and re-threaded. It has been used for a number of years. No problems at all. I made a jig to clamp the lower end of the gear lever in a vice. That 1. Avoid damaging the bottom end of the lever. 2. Controlled where the bend starts, e.g. not too low. The car is a wide body 2L Zetec, with an initially MT75 gearbox, but it was later converted to a Type 9. -
