I think this is the way it'll go too, we will not lose one, just gain another, double taxed on a road use of cars, all new cars have GPS as it is, we will just be mandated to have a black box fitted, classics may be exempt due to old electrical systems and generally limited mileages -

Exactly, our total road tax will go up because we will have a car based value and a per mile value, taxation is only going in one direction.

I am in the process of doing exactly the same job. I have also bought this product for added heat protection for the starter solid wires. -
Once the EV pay per mile charge is up and running, guess what then! Yes, there'll be a pay per mile going on petrol and diesel cars.

Thanks Ben, great meeting you and some of the members on Sunday at the Stag. Luckily my Se is a wide body and they seem to fit nicely although the hinge hole on the windscreen pilar had a lip in the casting half way down which was cured with a small round file. Hope to catch up with you all when I've got the car tested, registered and on the road, can't come soon enough. with regards john p

OTOH.... When I bought my pre-lit in about 1990, one of the first things I did was wrap the header. It lowered under bonnet temps significantly. I only had it about 3 years, sold it to go vintage racing. When I bought it back several years ago, it still had that same wrap on it. The header was in excellent shape, except that the chrome plating had acquired a green tint. 25+ years 5 or 6 years ago, I built a new header (larger pipe) it's wrapped as well -

Just because it worked before doesn’t make it a good argument — a house also stands until the day it fails. For an NA engine, wrapping the exhaust manifold is really a no-go. There’s no meaningful benefit, but there’s a lot of potential risk. The wrap absorbs oil mist (and there is always some), it traps moisture and water, and even with a stainless manifold it’s not great — the material itself tends to crumble and degrade after one or two seasons. On top of that you get dust and debris spreading everywhere. And after all that: still no real gain. For turbo setups, wrapping sometimes makes sense on parts that sit very close to heat-sensitive components, but that’s a completely different case. What exactly does the wrap actually do in your cars? Sorry, but I’ve seen too many burned cars on track not to mention that this is a very realistic ignition point. If it offered any real performance benefit, at least there would be a trade-off — but it simply doesn’t. -

It’s a necessity for me it been replaced so it was in place before, I’ve had it on all my Westfields, it does the job it needs to. As far as oil leaks go well I’m a bit anal on any leaks, this engine has just been completely rebuilt with new everything. Any leak of any description would be addressed as soon as it’s found I can’t live without a clean engine bay.🤩 -

I know it looks sporty and has its appeal, but I’m a bit cautious about exhaust wrap. In case of any oil leak it can act like a sponge, and oil-soaked material on a hot manifold can significantly increase the fire risk. Personally, I’d rather keep the manifold as clean as possible, or if heat is an issue, use a proper thermal coating or if possible sth like Inconel . On NA engines I don’t really see a strong benefit from wrapping. Sorry if this sounds overly careful — it’s just that this type of bandage is often used, requires a lot of effort, and in many cases ends up only increasing the potential fire risk. -
addition dash for oil temp, usb charger and afr will be 3d printed is ASA. 3D design of ARB and dash will be free for anyone interested 😄

Christmas wrapping done, ball ache! Sleeve type might have been easier when the engine was out but it’s done now, next back on to the suspension and chassis. -

I recorded Rachel Reeves on TV a few days ago when she announced measures for charging tax for electric cars based on mileage. As a multi-car, low-mileage driver I have been preaching this for many, many years and I think it's inevitable one day. For me it's just plain wrong that because my Jag is classed as high polluting I must pay a higher tax than others. My car only pollutes IF I use it, over one recent MOT to MOT year, I did just over 700 miles and paid almost £800 road tax, more than £1 per mile in just road tax alone! So how then does my 700 miles in a 5.0 V8 Jag cause more pollution than say someone doing 12,000 miles in a normal 2 litre petrol car? It's an absolute nonsense in my view. Basing it on mileage is the only fair way I think. So, here is word for word (I have the video) is what Rachel Reeves said..... "Because all cars contribute to the wear and tear on our roads, I will ensure that drivers are taxed according to how much they drive and not just by the type of car they use" That right there, applies to us lads and lasses! It also applies to my Jag and most low use vehicles. We should be behind any campaign for this, at least for out kit car usage IMHO. Yes I'm biased but I also believe in fair play. -
That's what Rachel Reeves announced recently, but when asked how she'd implement it she was like a rabbit in the headlights.

Australia have had a pay per mile charge for years and it is based on a reading taken at their version of the MOT That what they now seem to be proposing for electric cars, you predict how many miles and it's checked at the MOT. I guess if they started to use this for all cars then if you could not provide a milage from your odo they'd default to some middle to high figure.
