And they all wonder why all these city centres have shops closing and lower foot fall!
-
Cardiff council have just voted to bring in higher charges for residents parking of "large suv's" but one of the definitions of large is length and at 12 feet it makes the westfield 11 a large vehicle , at the same time they have extended the residents parking to cover the whole of cardiff so if you travel to anywhere in cardiff you can only park in council car parks and they have just had massive price hikes in all car parks. Just so they get you all ways the council own the bus company and the labour run assembly own the trains.

I agree. Landfill tax started at a few quid per tonne - a green levy 'to encourage recycling'. It's now over £130 per tonne. Which is why organised crime is now involved in industrial scale fly tipping.

Once they have a process for the new pay-per-mile, they'll definitely use it to gouge everything. -
But they will, it will be a Green Levy. Locally they are charging more for parking based on emissions and weight so nothing surprises me
-
The pence per mile charge for EV’s in to offset the decline in fuel duty revenue so in theory the Government lying toerags should not start adding pence per mile to petrol/diesel vehicles

Human CO2 production? That's pollution, right? Sounds fair for taxing -

I think this is the way it'll go too, we will not lose one, just gain another, double taxed on a road use of cars, all new cars have GPS as it is, we will just be mandated to have a black box fitted, classics may be exempt due to old electrical systems and generally limited mileages -

Exactly, our total road tax will go up because we will have a car based value and a per mile value, taxation is only going in one direction.

I am in the process of doing exactly the same job. I have also bought this product for added heat protection for the starter solid wires. -
Once the EV pay per mile charge is up and running, guess what then! Yes, there'll be a pay per mile going on petrol and diesel cars.

Thanks Ben, great meeting you and some of the members on Sunday at the Stag. Luckily my Se is a wide body and they seem to fit nicely although the hinge hole on the windscreen pilar had a lip in the casting half way down which was cured with a small round file. Hope to catch up with you all when I've got the car tested, registered and on the road, can't come soon enough. with regards john p

OTOH.... When I bought my pre-lit in about 1990, one of the first things I did was wrap the header. It lowered under bonnet temps significantly. I only had it about 3 years, sold it to go vintage racing. When I bought it back several years ago, it still had that same wrap on it. The header was in excellent shape, except that the chrome plating had acquired a green tint. 25+ years 5 or 6 years ago, I built a new header (larger pipe) it's wrapped as well -

Just because it worked before doesn’t make it a good argument — a house also stands until the day it fails. For an NA engine, wrapping the exhaust manifold is really a no-go. There’s no meaningful benefit, but there’s a lot of potential risk. The wrap absorbs oil mist (and there is always some), it traps moisture and water, and even with a stainless manifold it’s not great — the material itself tends to crumble and degrade after one or two seasons. On top of that you get dust and debris spreading everywhere. And after all that: still no real gain. For turbo setups, wrapping sometimes makes sense on parts that sit very close to heat-sensitive components, but that’s a completely different case. What exactly does the wrap actually do in your cars? Sorry, but I’ve seen too many burned cars on track not to mention that this is a very realistic ignition point. If it offered any real performance benefit, at least there would be a trade-off — but it simply doesn’t. -

It’s a necessity for me it been replaced so it was in place before, I’ve had it on all my Westfields, it does the job it needs to. As far as oil leaks go well I’m a bit anal on any leaks, this engine has just been completely rebuilt with new everything. Any leak of any description would be addressed as soon as it’s found I can’t live without a clean engine bay.🤩 -

I know it looks sporty and has its appeal, but I’m a bit cautious about exhaust wrap. In case of any oil leak it can act like a sponge, and oil-soaked material on a hot manifold can significantly increase the fire risk. Personally, I’d rather keep the manifold as clean as possible, or if heat is an issue, use a proper thermal coating or if possible sth like Inconel . On NA engines I don’t really see a strong benefit from wrapping. Sorry if this sounds overly careful — it’s just that this type of bandage is often used, requires a lot of effort, and in many cases ends up only increasing the potential fire risk.
