Newbie says Hi

Hi all - I've just agreed to buy a Westfield that I've been trying for the last couple of years to prise out of its owner's hands, due to lack of use (it has done 89 miles across the last three MOTs....) - He's finally agreed to let it go.

The previous owner is dave_t of this parish - he bought it back in 2010 and managed to find the original builder with a bit of help from this forum. Although the car is a Cat D, I've known Dave and the car for many years, so I feel pretty confident that the previous write-off isn't an issue.

Its a 2004 registered SeiW with a 170-ish bhp 2.0 Zetec. Dave has made various mods and improvements over the years - I'll post up a full spec later.

I'm going to be on a very steep learning curve, but if this forum is anything like the Fiat Coupe forum (my other weekend car), I'll be in safe and helpful hands

I expect I'll get along to some local meets, but as I'm in my late 50's, I certainly won't be braving the chilly weather - I'm definitely going to be a fair weather Westie owner (it doesn't have a heater or a screen - just as well I've kept some of my old biking gear....)

I've already made a mental note to try to stay away from the Classifieds section - just spotted Carbon aeroscreen - yum....

I know  the Cat-D status is going to affect resale, but I believe I'm getting it at a good price which reflects this. I also know that 170-ish bhp is not exactly tarmac-rippling. I'm going to have to work really hard not to get tempted into bigger power. My Fiat Coupe runs close to 500bhp, so I'm used to a huge rush of power - I'm hoping that my fun in the Westie will be at much saner speeds than the Coupe

Welcome - sounds like a nice car with money spent in the right places.

Cat D isn't a huge issue in my opinion - as long as the repairs were undertaken correctly.

Now I'm a fully paid-up WSCC member, I can post two more photos :)

I'm collecting the car on Sunday morning, but looking at the weather forecast for Monday, its going straight into the garage

The current owner says it is a proper handful in the wet - extremely tail-happy. Can this be engineered out? If I remember correctly, its running Toyo Proxes at about 19psi.

I'll have a bundle of questions - for example the throttle response is a bit fluffy coming off idle and it can cut out when cold. Sounds like the map needs tweaking to me. Not sure I fancy mapping it myself, so it will need a pro - any recommendations in the Midlands?

I'm enjoying this already and its not even mine yet....
