Spring Thunder Day – Buccaneer Anniversary

April 29

  •
  •
Buccaneer was hugely popular with the crowd

Join us for a great Family Day Out in Yorkshire as we enjoy the 2018 Spring Thunder Day with a celebration of the first flight of the Blackburn Buccaneer, just a few miles away from the Museum at Brough. The 30th of April 1958 was the first flight of the Buccaneer which went on to serve in both the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.

The Museum is incredibly fortunate to have no less than three Buccaneers, with the rare prototype XN974 maintained in full ground running order. All three of our Buccaneers will be on full display with a whole array of their capabilities for visitors to learn more about this versatile aircraft.

  • Buccaneer XN975 Engine Runs Celebrating the first flight of the Buccaneer, our famous prototype trials aircraft will be demonstrating her wing folding, control surfaces and, of course, those mighty jet engines.
  • SE5a and Eastchurch Kitten vintage biplane engine runs
  • C47 Dakota Engine runs
  • David Herriot of the Buccaneer Aircrew Association will be giving a talk entitled Buccaneer at 60
  • DeHavilland Devon Engine runs
  • Nimrod XV250 engine runs
  • Victor XL231 engine runs
  • Fire rescue demonstration by the Museum fire team

Thank you to Ron, does that also mean we get to meet you tomorrow?

Hang on, let me put my Mrs Practical head on....that's better, now, just so everyone knows there is a BP garage next door to B and Q. Obviously that means fuel, but I have just rung and checked and they have a customer toilet too.

Firstly thanks to Geoffrey for organising the day for us. Sorry we didn’t get the opportunity to thank you in person.

What a great day. 15 Westfields parked up in one car park!  Good to meet up with friends again and meet new people. The food was brill and the warmth in the NAAFI very welcome :)  The Air Museum was excellent and the planes starting up were awesome.

Brilliant day. Thanks.

Thankyou everyone for the nice comments.

It was a great day and I really enjoyed it.

Loved the Buccaneer when it taxied along and then did all the checks etc and also the Dakota with flames coming from its exhaust.

Here are a few pictures but I have placed a lot more in our facebook page which can be accessed from the link in my signature.

Thanks again to everyone who attended. :t-up:
