I need a project. Ideas?

Since my car found a new home my garage has felt awful empty. To the point now the rest of the family now assume it's open season for storing their crap. Sorely mistaken!!

So I need a project to keep me busy and to reaffirm the garage space as mine.

I don't want to spend silly amounts maybe 2 or 3k tops. So a full new Westfield build is off the cards. I've been keeping an eye out for any basket case or non finished builds but with my budget don't come up very often. I was offered a part built Mev exocet for not a lot but it had been bodged at every level and even with a full strip and rebuild it's still a fugly thing.

So I'm after some suggestions. Things I've considered so far.

- mx5. I was keen as they are very tuneable however I'm 6ft 4 and I just look ridiculous In one.

- z3/z4. I would prefer a z4 so would need to stretch budget. Not sure how tweakable they are on a budget?

- rather than a complete car I'd considered taking on an engine build. I've never done a complete engine strip/build so could be fun. But then what engine? Zetec duratec mx5 v8? I would then need to find a home for said engine as I doubt I could sell on a home rebuilt engine without proof it works.

Has anyone got any more suggestions for me to consider?

Cheers

Steve

How about putting a 1.6 Ecoboost in a Puma?

Sounds like something you've given that a thought yourself mike! Good call tho. I had a 1.6 puma back in 2001 and always thought it could handle a bit more poke.

Get a cost from Iain at IH Freelance . You never know !! Then build a decent Zetec for it or something . You want loose a bean if you sell it.

Yeah maybe. But id prefer to avoid IVA and registration if possible. Id end up wanting carbon everything knowing me and end up spending 10k before I know it...

Big (BIG) screen TV, PS4 with Gran Tourismo, build yourself a race seat (gaming chair) asa project, buy a top steering wheel and pedal set, a fridge, and some beer...

If the budget extends a bit then...

I'm restoring a cylinder lawn mower which has an old villiers engine. It's surprisingly good fun and there is now so much old grease and oil all over the garage that I don't think anyone else wants to go in there anymore!

I've always wanted to get an old mini and fully refurb it but with a zetec in.

Can pick them up for relatively cheap and so long as the standard mini rust issues are ok parts are readily avaliable  for everything to do with them

Have you considered turning that empty space into an income this winter.... as in I asked my local specialist to have my car for the winter with all the bits provided and cash up front .... he seemed too well off to take me up on the offer.... then next year you could have a bigger budget !!

Or you could put the running gear from a Toyota Celica into an old mini. The Project Binky boys are making light work of that...

Or the new Olympic sport of pole dancing could be good in an emtpy garage. Make your mark before everyone has a go and also subsidise the new car fund with work in the evenings................ :d
