Manual or PDK Boxster

John K

Recommended Posts

Made my mind up, the Westie and ST are going and I will throw some cash in so my Boxster budget is £20k and it can happen anytime if the right car comes along

I know there are excellent Z4s and Caymens out there, but I want a Boxster. And I reckon 20k will get me a 3.4s

The question is, manual or PDK.

The legs are deffo going so if the clutch is stiff I have to go PDK.

But the stubborn part of me still thinks real men drive stick.

Are there any 2010ish Porker PDK owners out there who can tell me if its a decent box.

I'm weighing up drivability against reliability, especially as I will be buying privately.

Advice from the collective is appreciated.

Manual, all things being equal. In your case things are not equal. A friend of mine has MS and whilst she can drive a stick the auto is a much better proposition. She's just bought a Lexus RC-F :d

There are V8 M3's and V10 M6's too. Think of the M3 as a post modern Ford Escort Mk 2. Ponder that for a moment.

And if you can stretch the budget a bit then the new shape Boxter is in range. I know the below video is the Cayman but it's the same gearbox...

Can you please do me a favour, as one MS numpty to another, can you ask her what she would do..?

Driving is the last thing I can "do" as it doesn't involve balance.

She went auto for the same reasons. Stiff legs. She can drive my 55 plate manual diesel Focus just fine, but not for very long in traffic because fatigue sets in more rapidly as you know. Auto's and most modern cars with electrically assisted everything are just easier.

One of my neighbours has an '09 Porker it's not a Boxster but he did say to me he wished he'd gone for the Auto/Tip/PDK as the clutch was very heavy.

Get down to your local friendly Porsche centre and drive them both.

Depends on how much and how far you will be driving it. Either should be a doddle after Mr Grumpy.

And your right, real men drive stick. ;) No doubt someone will dispute this.

If an auto is going to give more time for being able to drive, then there's the answer John. The auto is a good box, just needs an oil change occasionally, but other than that , go for it.

Is there any manufacturer who has more complicated model versions than Porsche..?

After hours of googling I think I want a...

987 Gen 2 3.4s PDK 2010 MY or newer

Ideal budget 17 to 20k, will stretch to 22k

Anybody selling one? (not you Grizz...)

Still going to find a manual and just try the clutch, but semi auto seems to be the puppy.

Is there a diesel one? Start with that :p

Once the bore wear starts and the pistons slap like a 10 quid trollope, it will sound like a diesel anyway :d
