I've read it for loton and it says dogs are not allowed and can't be left in cars, but it says can be left in a van and exercised on a lead outside the van. Marto303 Posted August 30, 2017 Share Posted August 30, 2017 Hi Tony We have our Lola ( cocker Spaniel ) who comes to lots of SS events with us. She's been to Blyton, Wiscombe Park, Gurston Down, Loton Park, Harewood & Curborough. I've also seen people with their dogs at Anglesey. Seriously, it is a question of safety. Most motorsport venues say no dogs, because the consequences of a dog slipping it's lead and getting onto the track during the event just don't bear thinking about. However, a dog kept in a motorhome whilst the event is in progress, and only exercised on a lead before racing starts and after racing finishes, and maybe during the lunch break is not normally objected to at most of the sprint and hillclimb venues, as far as I can see. However when your competing in a deer park and a competitor has to abort his run to avoid a deer on the track, which happened at the weekend, the odd few entrants with well behaved dogs with them is not really a safety issue. Paul Morcom Posted August 31, 2017 Share Posted August 31, 2017 A deer is a wild animal and unless in a fenced enclosure (i.e farmed) is not owned by anyone, not even the landowner until it has been shot. A dog is a domesticated animal and a totally different legal responsibility of the owner. Stephen is absolutely right, some places do allow dog under certain rules but most ban them. Ty Croes specifically say no dogs and I believe you will be immediately escorted off the premises and probably disqualified at the same time - not worth risking it. https://www.angleseycircuit.com/venue/information/spectator-guide/ Loton Park regs say with regards to dogs... "25. DOGS: Members of the public will not be allowed to bring dogs into Loton Park. Our landlord, Sir Michael Leighton, has agreed to allow competitors to bring dogs into the park on the following basis:- a. From 1 hour before the programmed commencement of runs to 30 minutes after the final run, dogs must be kept in motorhomes or caravans out of sight of the general public. It is not acceptable to leave dogs in cars or vans. b. Dogs may need to be exercised in the middle of the day and this must be done outside the park. Wherever possible such dogs should be removed from, and returned to, the park by car. Identifying this intention to the gatekeeper will avoid embarrassment on return. c. Outside the hours identified in a) dogs may be exercised in the park within the area leased by HDLCC, identified by signage within the parking areas and not to the east or south of the track. d. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times they are outside a motorhome or caravan. The Club is grateful to Sir Michael Leighton for granting this concession but it must be pointed out that it will be withdrawn if competitors do not abide by the rules a) to d). In the event of an incident involving a dog brought in by a competitor or his support crew, the offender will be required to remove the dog(s) immediately. Should an unleashed dog worry game or deer, the Loton Park Gamekeeper will be within his rights to take appropriate action." Gurston Down have fully banned dogs in the August and September events, earlier events dogs were allowed if kept in the camping field during the event and kept on a lead at all other times. This August/September ban was introduced due to a competitor exercising his dog near an area full of game birds and when asked to leave argued with the farmer/owner/gamekeeper. Not that any WSCC dog owner would be like that but just shows that a minority can spoil the event for everyone else. Extract from Gurston Down regs... "21 CAMPING/DOGS Camping is permitted at the following rates from which a donation is made to the village. Motorhomes and family tents £10, for this will be collected at the venue. You may be aware that Gurston Down is a large and prestigious shoot. Dogs obviously conflict with these interests. In order for them to continue to be allowed to come and camp with you it is imperative that they be kept on a lead at all times and confined to the camping field. With the exception of August and September as no dogs will be allowed at all. It is also respectfully requested that you have their worming regime up to date as our Landlord has to make a declaration to Farm Assurance to this effect." As a dog owner I take a keen interest in which events entrants take their dogs along to, regardless of what the regs say and I can assure you that Anglesey turn a blind eye, well certainly have on the occasions I've been. I haven't quite got my head around how the point scoring works, but it would appear that one can select events to compete in, so the dog friendly ones will be first choice! M Possibly the information presented by event organisers is more to deter spectators from turning up with dogs rather than competitors. I have only ever taken my dogs to Curborough and that was a WSCC run event. @Tony SmileyI am more than happy to explain the scoring system to you sometime - it is not as complicated as it appears in the regs.
