The more the merrier from my understanding you need a non race national b licence. You'll need a timing strut and a few other things. Have you had a read of the beginners guide in this section of the forum

The license is an MSA "NON_RACE NATIONAL 'B' (NOT EU)"

No test etc required.

May be some medical conditions or if over a cirtain age you require a Doctor to approve/certify fitness to compete.

Protection wise requires in date FIA Helmet, Suit and Gloves. (E.g. WSCC SS classes A1 A2 B1 B2)

Modified Production classes additionally  require HANS & Compatible Helmet.

In class F you can run 1A and 1B tyres  (needs a normal Helmet) You can also run list 1C tyres but would run in non road going ( modified production/specialist cars) and need a Helmet and Hans device

If you decide to run slicks you would be in speed series class H. You can run slicks on any Mod prod , sports fibre or racing car class

I would assume they are not listed in the MSA Blue Book as the choice of slicks is "free". i.e. you can use any make or compound; there is no restriction in Mod Prod, Sports Libre or Racing Cars.

Perhaps Terry or one of the others in G or H can confirm for bunje? Also give him some advice as there are preferred compounds for hillclimbs and sprints. Or if just starting out there are plenty of race championships that almost throw away good slicks after a practice, qualifying or a race (but they would be harder compound than the specialist hill/sprint tyres).

Remember that if running 1c or slick tyres, your car will need to conform to MSA modified production regs and will therefore need to have an MSA log book and Hans device. 

Only when running in a road legal class using 1a or 1b list tyres can you use the v5, MOT and road tax without the need for an MSA logbook. 

It is slightly complicated as there is a variance between what is allowed at an event under MSA regulations and what is allowed in WSCC classes for the championship, but it all becomes pretty clear once you get stuck in.

Actually Barny is not quite correct. If the car is presented for scrutineering  (to run in Mod Prods class) running list 1C tyres in a compliant road legal condition with MOT ,tax and Insurance you do not need a MSA logbook/passport. However you could get it logbooked and save MOT, tax Insurance etc so long as you don't run the car on the road and do not want to enter a Road Legal class on the day. If its on slicks you do need the Logbook

Interesting, thanks Tel. Not what the MSA scrutineer told me! He said that as a result of running 1c tyres which are not e-marked and therefore not road legal (Avon ZZR), I had to have the car MSA logbooked as it was not in a road legal condition, so tax MOT etc is irrelevant.

Fortunately I have this anyway and was able to present it straight away, but it would have stopped me progressing if I didn't have the logbook. Would be good to get clarity on this point. I don't doubt you as we've all had experience of over zealous scrutineers!

What does the msa logbook require. Pardon all my questions but I've never been involved in any form of motorsport before. Do you have to pay to aquire said logbook.
