N YORKSHIRE. RIDE INTO THE NORTH YORKSHIRE MOORS. 8.7.17

Recommended Posts

On Saturday 8th July, I am going to have a ride over into the North Yorkshire Moors.

Nice coffee at Kirkham Abbey.

Something to eat in Helmsley and then up into the moors.

I am happy to mooch around the moors if anyone fancies it.

Happy to stop at Grosmont to see the steam trains but we will have to pay for parking.

I am going to leave home at 9.00am but will probable leave earlier and go for breakfast somewhere.

Anyone care to join me.

Had a brilliant day today in glorious sunshine.

Had breakfast in a cafe at the head of Driffield canal to begin with.

A load of scooters arrived and they waited outside the cafe and a number of them kept coming into the cafe and asking to use the toilet, and not one of them bought anything. I thought that was a bit bad.

Next stop was Fimber Halt and this is a disused railway station and goods yard. You can get a cup of tea here and there are toilets and plenty of parking.

Then over to Kirkham Abbey and we had a mooch around the river. Spent a while watching dragonflies chasing each other by a weir.

Next it was Castle Howard, Ampleforth, Byland Abbey and then we called in at the Yorkshire Gliding Club for coffee and cake and to watch the gliders for an hour.

We even spotted an aero-screened glider.

In Helmsley we spotted a well know red Westfield that seems to be following me all over the country. perhaps I have an admirer.

Then over onto the moors on brilliant single track roads and headed to Rosedale Chimney. Saw plenty of feral goats.

Grosmont was next on the agenda and did hope to see steam trains but unfortunately the station was empty.

Whitby, Sandsend and Scarborough followed and then home.

It has been a great day and here are a few pictures for you.
