  1. Hi All, To avoid further hi-jacking Julie's raceline water rail fitting thread further, thought I'd put this into a new thread. So my car decided to deposit all its coolant on the floor the other day, and suspecting a dodgy thermostat housing I've ordered the Raceline water rail. Whilst waiting for it to arrive, decided to strip out the existing set up This looks like the sender unit for the temp gauge in the dash and looks pretty corroded/knackered, so I think this might be the cause of my leak. Everything else looks fine. Does this thermostat look right? I figured that whilst cold it should be sealing the coolant path but there's a gap of around 1cm? Raceline recommend getting rid of the expansion tank that I'm currently running, but I note that when @Julie Hall - AO Representative, Peak District AO fitted her water rail it was kept? Image supplied by Raceline is below As you can see they're running the over flow from the 'stat housing into an overflow bottle down near the headlight. This system looks like a simpler set up and would reduce potential future failure points, so I'm throwing this to the WSCC experts - keep the expansion tank on the scuttle, or set up as per raceline? Thanks All! Mat
  2. My much-loved Westfield SEiW is for sale. Excellent car, set up for performance, agility and every day driveability. I’ve owned it for a few years and it’s always been reliable, even for touring. I'm told it was set up and corner weighted by Northampton motorsport. The car has an age-related H plate but was completed and registered in 2007. It’s been well looked after, always garaged and due to lack of weather gear, used only in dry conditions. It currently has 12,462 miles on the clock (might change due to use) and MOT until 11th August 2018. I have a large box of paperwork and receipts. I've tried to include detailed photos, but let me know if there's anything you want included that isn't there. The car is based in Norwich and is yours for £9,000 ono. I work from home most of the time so i'm happy to do daytime, evening or weekend viewings. For any questions, please give me a call or text on 07990 590581. Please don't call after 9pm. Specification is as follows. Please ask if you have any questions or I’ve missed anything. Body/Chassis: Genuine Westfield SEiW chassis in black powdercoat. Genuine Westfield SEiW body panels in yellow. Carbon effect arch protectors and detail on cycle wings. “Triangle” roll over bar (standard square roll over bar to come with car). Lockable boot box. Lockable V8 bonnet with black mesh cutouts at rear of engine bay. Engine/Transmission: 2005 Ford Zetec 2L – Mileage of engine is approx. 60k. Weber Carbs recently serviced and set up (2017). Raceline Water Rail. Uprated engine bolts. New lightweight battery installed (2017), continually connected to trickle charger to maintain optimum charge. New water pump (2017). New cambelt (2017). New radiator (2017). Type 9 gearbox. Engine immobiliser. Repackable exhaust – repacked within last 1000 miles. Black exhaust cover. I have receipts for more uprated engine parts but I can’t verify whether they were installed as I’ve never broken down the engine. Interior: Comfort Westfield seats, mounted on rails for adjustable position. I’m 6ft 4” and quite wide; the car is still comfortable to drive. Carpets throughout. Floor mounted adjustable pedal box. Heater. VDO Gauges – Speed, Revs, Fuel, Engine Temp, Oil Pressure. Standard switchgear for lights, wipers, water spray, heater, horn, indicators. SPARCO suede steering wheel attached to gold 6-bolt pop-off mount on an Allegro steering column. Engine immobiliser. SABELT 4-point harnesses. Westfield full size side doors. Westfield wet weather hood frame (no hood included, I’ve never used it in wet weather). Suspension/Wheels: GAS adjustable suspension. M16 brake callipers (new calliper installed last year). Brake discs front and rear. 4 x Team Dynamics 15” wheels in black. R888 tyres – 205/50 R15 all round. Spare rear-mounted wheel with Westfield cover (not a matching Team Dynamics wheel). Extension number plate for rear-mounted spare wheel. Bad bits: I like to be up front about things so there's no surprises. As with any car, especially this type, there's always something that can improved upon, but this Westfield is in genuinely good shape. Here's a list of the things I've noticed that I'd want mentioned if I was buying: Both front wheel bearings have a little play, but nothing major. These will need doing at some point. MOT advisories. The tyres are down to the minimum tread so will need to be replaced soon. MOT Advisories. I haven't done it as you might want different tyres. There is a crack in the rear bodywork where the number plate extension bar passes through. It's not huge, nor structural. I've included pictures. There is a small hole in the driver's seat bolster. It's a few mm square so nothing to particularly worry about. I've included pictures. Air filter for Webers is scuffed where the bonnet goes on and off. Some of the engine pipework could do with replacing/upgrading but everything works fine and I haven't had any issues.

  4. FW SE Zetec Build 2018

Hi Following advice from all the positive responses to my hello world post here is my build blog. Still waiting to collect the chassis and mechanicals, 13 days to go. Spec FW SE new style front and back. Wide front track, heater, Zetec 2 Litre, Mazda dif, Ford recon gearbox, turbo seats, stone guards, 4 point harness, MSA cage, Westy calipers, Orange and black bodywork black wheels. Some questions, first of many. 1, Collection. Any top tips for how to protect parts, secure stuff in transit ? I am going to get the GRP at a later date so this trip will be all the heavy and sharp bits of metal. I have built a wheeled skid for the Engine and gearbox and I have a selection of carry mats, old sheets and a lot of cardboard and straps, anything obvious I am missing ? Do I need to take a selection of boxes ? 2. Doing all the riveting and pipes. Question should I acid prime and spray all the bare aluminium panels or just some of them or don't bother. I was thinking Waxoyl spray ( clear stuff like WD40) inside chassis while doing panels is this worth the effort ? 3. Any suggestions for a good supplier of the super hard drill bits for the chassis drilling, what is the typical price ( I have seen everything from very cheap and suspect to insane price and suspect). 4. Any parts particularly prone to rust in storage while building so I can cover with some oiled paper. My garage is not the driest place. Any feedback gratefully received. Regards
  5. New visitor here. Mark from Oxfordshire. I have an orange and black complete Zetec SE kit on order and I should be picking it up in two weeks time ( fingers crossed weather etc). This is my second build, sort have got a rather expensive build habit forming. I have to confess I embraced the dark side first, I assembled a Caterham 160 in 2016 / 2017. All IVA'd and great fun on road and track, looking forward to the challenge of assembling the Westy 2 Litre, the test drive was great so looking forward to 150 BHP vs 80 BHP. House rule is I can keep the 160 till the Westy is IVA'd after that I have to decide which I like best and sell the other, not looking forward to that decision, but we have to eat apparently. Spec for westy. Wide front track, 4 point harness, MSA Roll Bar, Heater, Half hood, sidescreens, Turbo seats, westy calipers, stone guards. Will do a youtube channel for the westy build and link it to this forum if that is allowed. Did a youtube channel for 160 build if anybody interested https://youtu.be/LLMKo96xB4w No pipe bending. simple wiring and fewer rivets, so I am expecting more fun with Westy build. Ah well better book the Luton. Just one question. Are Westfield reliable with collection date ? They keep saying 16 March, should I expect a last minute delay ? Regards
  6. Just wanted to say Hi to the forum, and present my car. I bought it 2 months ago, as a track car. Glad to be in the forum, lots of good technical info and good to be in touch with other owners! I live in Spain and as you can imagine these cars are very rare here. The previous owner could not give me much information about the cars history, I am discovering it as I go along. Its a LHD seiw with a 2.0 zetec engine, type 9 gearbox, rusty spax shocks, discovery ap calipers, a revcounter and not much more And now some pics!!!
  7. Coolant system help

Hi all, picked up my “new” westy at the weekend and drove it 200 miles home with no problems. Noticed a sight coolant drip from the bottom hose when I got back and the expansion tank was a bit murky and virtually empty. In my wisdom I thought this would be a good time to refresh the coolant. However, can’t get the bottom hose off to drain all the old stuff out (did get maybe a litre out though). Filled the expansion tank which only took a litre. Ran the engine to get it warm and open the thermostat but not sure what the problem is now!! The top hose got hot enough I could cook on it, but the bottom hose which I assume comes from the water pump still felt empty. See pic attached in case I have the labels wrong. Temp gauge in the car said 50 degrees. Do I need to leave it running longer? Do I have an airlock somewhere? converned that the gauge won’t show the correct temp if it isn’t getting any water and don’t want to melt my engine! thanks
  8. A little help - urgent

Hi All, I've gone and busted the take off from my Zetec thermostat housing thingy, the one that, on my setup, goes to the expansion/header tank with a 10mm hose. It's the green bit, the rest of it is in the hose! It seems the plate has 3 bolts (two seen in the pic) so just the face plate might do...? Could I even block this off? I broke it whilst replacing the old original header tank with a new one and I also discovered I need some more hose. It needs to be 25(26)mm at the thick end then 15(16)mm at the thin end. I suspect it needs to be about a foot long min as I'm going to have to snake it round in an S shape to fit. It's all a bit Heath Robinson but the old tank was about to blow and I'm wanting to get it set safe for Blyton next Friday - hence this is a bit urgent. So, please let me know what you've got. Happy to pay going rate and shipping. I'm resigned to missing this Sunday's local car show but I really don't want to miss Blyton. Thanks...
  9. I am after a carbon exhaust silencer and link pipe for a zetec. I do currently have a stainless cat version that may also be up for grabs, cheers.
  10. Morning all, its been a while since I took the cables off and I didn't take a picture. Can anyone help with the correct location for both starter and alternator? Additionally, on the starter motor end, where does the earth from the chassis bolt to? Is it through the bell housing caphead bolt or to the hex head that goes into the block?
  11. What Fuel Pump..?

I'm planning on running a Zetec 1.8L (silver top) with the standard Ford fuel injection system and the Westfield Zetec air filter and kidney intake (http://parts-shop.westfield-sportscars.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=214). Can canybody suggestion an appropriate, reliable, fuel pump? Thx, A
  12. Quick zetec loom question

Hi I'm hoping somebody can answer a quick query i have regarding the standard zetec wiring loom. Where the 3 connectors connect to the main chassis loom I appear to have a 4th connector which I'm not sure what it is used for any ideas? Thanks in advance!
  13. Ford Zetec help needed

So, I have just bought a Westfield with a standard 2.0 silvertop on Weber alpha and I also have left over from another project (Mk2 Escort) a complete ST170 ALDA engine, stripped and in the process of being rebuilt. All the rwd escort parts that I have accumulated aside, I have a pair of new Ultimate Road Piper cams ground for VVT delete and a VVT delete kit from the States. I have a set of ARP rod bolts and a Jenvey inlet manifold. Question is, should I carry on with the complete engine build and swap the whole engine straight out, or is it an easier job to swap heads only. I know the ST has a stronger bottom end using better quality materials and under piston lubrication, but is it worth going to that length? The only other thing I've heard is that the silvertop block doesn't share the same bolt pattern for cam tensioning as the blacktop but will this cause me a problem? Answers on a postcard please..
  14. Hi Chaps. I am in the process of replacing my Ford Silvertop engine with a new Blacktop unit on my Westy. I have for sale the alternator + bracket from my Silvertop. Item Description: - Alternator removed from a Ford 1.8L Zetec Silvertop Engine. - I cannot fully verify the age and mileage of the source vehicle that alternator was taken (as this was already on the car when I purchased it) - But it is in full working order. - Ford Number: 92AB-10300-FB. Sorry I do not have the FINIS code. - Bracket included (both the main bracket + tensioning arm) - The geared nut is not available (only a few pounds to buy) + isolator bushes on the bracket are worn and ideally should be replaced. Price: £25 + delivery cost Pick up welcome and I am happy to deliver to Gillingham / Rainham, KENT If you need more info, feel free to call me on 07881 655 878.
  15. Hi Chaps. I am in the process of replacing my Ford Silvertop engine with a new Blacktop unit on my Westy. I have for sale the cylinder head from my Silvertop. Item Description: - Cylinder Head removed from a Ford 1.8L Zetec Silvertop Engine. - This includes valves & spring assemblies (Tappets also available) - I cannot fully verify the age and mileage of the source engine , as this was already on the car when I purchased my Westy. - The engine that this head was removed from, was burning oil / smoking. - Although this was rooted to scored cylinder bores, it is possible that the valve stem oil seals may have also contributed to the oil consumption (I do not think so, but I simply do not know for certain) Price: £55 or reasonable offers. Location: Gillingham, KENT Delivery: Pick up only as it is too heavy & expensive to ship. I am happy to deliver in the Medway area of KENT only. If you need more info, feel free to call me on 07881 655 878.
  16. Sandwich Plate - Ford Zetec Blacktop to MT75 Gearbox

Hi Guys, I am new to the forum so please bear with me if this question has come up again. I have a Westfield SEW fitted with an MT75 Gearbox which I have owned for 18 months. I am in the process of replacing a Ford 1.8L Zetec Silvertop Engine (burning oil) with a brand new Ford 2.0L Blacktop unit. In the process of doing so, I have noticed the flywheel is heavily exposed at engine / bell housing interface (See photos below). I want to shield this when I fit the my engine to prevent grit, dirt and water getting into my new clutch / flywheel assembly. Having done some literature search, I understand a sandwich plate was available through the Ford Dealer network (FINIS 6559240) but having contacted my local dealer, it appears that this has been discontinued. I am looking for advice on whether you are aware of any other place to source such a sandwich plate ? If not new, even a second hand one that I can recondition? Ofcourse last resort would be to make one up, but I would prefer to avoid flaffing around making templates and cutting sheet metal. Any ideas? Thank you.
  17. Westfield SEIW 2 LITRE ZETEC After a lot of soul-searching, i’ve decided to let the Westfield go. I’ve owned the car for the last ten years, but recently hasn’t been getting the use it should and I’d rather it went to a good home and got the use it deserves. It’s a well presented and specified car that would make an ideal first Westfield, or a solid upgrade for an existing owner. The car incorporates a blend of practical and safety upgrades, making the car equally at home on road or track. Car is advertised here, before it goes on the usual sites. The car: Registered on a ‘Q’ plate in August 2000 WSCC members car Folder of receipts etc. Build manual and photo CD 19,448 miles 12 Months MOT with no advisories Engine/Transmission: Ford 2 litre Zetec (16v) Twin Weber 45 DCOE carburettors (5 progression hole modified for smooth power delivery) Weber Alpha ECU Scholar baffled sump and modified oil pick-up pipe Westfield stainless repackable sports exhaust Engine tuned and mapped by Troy at Northampton Motorsport Ford MT75 gearbox Westfield quick shift Ford Sierra LSD Disc brakes front and rear with plenty of life in them Fully adjustable poly bushed AVO shock absorbers and coil springs MOCAL oil catch tank Body: Westfield SEIW bodywork in Chrome Yellow with detachable rear arches and ducted nosecone Westfield Chrome Yellow aeroscreen Clear lenses front and side Westfield carbon lookalike rear arch protectors Westfield sports seats Sabelt 3” 4 point harnesses RAC type rollbar (with detachable stays) Westfield lockable bootbox Heater 12v socket Momo Team 280mm steering wheel Thatcham grade 2 immobiliser High level brake light 15x7 Raceline Alloy wheels in graphite grey with locking nuts and fitted with Toyo R888 medium compound tyres with plenty of tread Waxolyed chassis Original windscreen with side doors, hood and wiper motor will be included should the new owner wish to revert back to the original windscreen setup. 18. Fit Blacktop head to Silvertop 2L Zetec

Can anyone advise please? I have a 2L Zetec, an early version purchased in 1998 from Raceline. The head is described as a Silvertop and it is standard, casting number 958MR-6090-CC on exhaust face. I wish to fit a later Blacktop which I have, casting number XS76090AC. The later head has marginally larger valves and will be the basis for further mods. Externally the heads do look very similar but not identical and nothing that can't be modified to suit I think. However are the water ways, oil ways etc the same? Has anyone undertaken this alteration and aware of any problems please?
  19. Zetec Engine Mounts

Hi I'm after some engine mounts for Zetec Silvertop. I think that the N/S (passenger side) engine mounting bracket is interchangeable (with the Blacktop?) but the O/S (driver side) one isn't, so if you have upgraded to a blacktop and have this going spare i'd be interested in just the O/S or full set if you changed the lot? Thanks Andy
  20. Zetec water rail wanted

Hi all, my home made water rail has failed and wanted to replace it this winter and wondered if any one has a system surplus to requirement. Engine is a stock zetec 2.0lt blacktop. Thanks Craig

  22. FIXED :: Dunnell Zetec bogging down at 4600 revs

I've developed a problem post the main positive lead coming adrift from the alternator at Blyton. It "could" be an ECU issue, given that there was ample opportunity for the loose positive lead to short. Engine is 2.0l Dunnell Zetec injection. I've had the TPS off and cleaned it, put it back, reset the TPS via the Dunnell ECU, tweaked the TPS mounting and the idle screw and it's running like a dream, drives very well across all gears and styles apart from... when I get to around 4600 revs it bogs down completely, kind of like a rev limiter but much, much rougher and kinda scary. Get past the 4600 or so and it's all back to normal smoothness. Will do it under load, can't replicate it at standstill. So... any ideas...? Was thinking, and some have suggested, fuelling, but then how come it picks up again once pushed through the 4600? I can't do much with the Dunnell ECU, there must be a map and I guess it's "hidden" to me or if not an EPROM has got goosed maybe? Apart from the ECU map goosed at 4600 I'm a bit stumped hence looking for more ideas please...
  23. I have a zero miles since build Zetec 2.0 engine with Dunnel Option 3 kit (212-223bhp) as per here http://www.dunnellengines.com/zetec_carb_optionkits_3.php The block was acid dipped and fully inspected and uprated Dunnel rod bolts installed when the engine was built by local motorsport mechanic. As mentioned, this has not been run since the build so is basically like new. Also comes with Dunnel shallow wet sump, Raceline water rail, lightweight motorsport alternator, 45 DCOE’s, Dunnel ECU and loom, custom exhaust manifold for Westfield, spare standard Zetec 2.0 engine. £3500 o.n.o.
  24. Hi all, Looking to go down a different route with my Westfield 7 SE build so I have a zero miles since build Zetec 2.0 with Dunnel Option 3 kit (Circa 215bhp) as per here http://www.dunnellengines.com/zetec_carb_optionkits_3.php Bottom end was fully checked over when engine was built by local motorsport mechanic. Also comes with shallow wet sump, Water rail, lightweight motorsport alternator, 45 DCOE’s, Dunnel ECU & Wiring Loom. £4000 o.n.o. Also a Quaife QBM1M 4 speed sequential gearbox (https://shop.quaife.co.uk/quaife-in-line-4-speed-sequential-with-drop-gears) includes digital gear indicator, prop shaft, type 9 and Vauxhall bell housings and drop gear ratio kit, hydraulic clutch, again, very little use by previous owner so like new. - £3250. o.n.o. Also unfitted/unused Geartronics Easyshift ECU flatshifter - £250 Please PM me if interested in both or either, ideally would like to sell together. Thanks.
  25. 1999 1800 Zetec Westfield SeiW With regret I am selling my Westfield. This car is amazing, really clean and well look after. The car is built to a very high standard. The engine is a 1800 16v Zetec on twin Webers, producing approximately 150bhp, set up by Northampton Motorsport. It has a MT75 5 Speed gearbox, and a standard open differential. Interior is all black with Westfield bucket seats, it comes with wind wings, doors and full weather equipment that has never been used. As far as I know the car has never been driven in the wet. Tonneau cover and an indoor car cover are also included. If you are genuinely interested please get in touch for more information. More photographs available on request.
