  5. I think it's very much a matter of personnel perspective, yes in my mind I payed a lot of money for me complet 250 kit, but to me thats only a small part of the Westfield experience IMHO. For me my personnel journey into building my kit has opened my upto a new chapter in my life as I now no-longer sit in front of a PC with my clan mates fighting battles on various games every night for long hours, and while I have nothing against the "Gamer" title I have just moved onto a better lifestyle with a different focus, better social life with my local WF buddies. Now I'm very fortunate in being at a stage in my life where I can afford to do this and have the support of my wife, in getting my backside off the sofa and being more active. I'd also echo the point that I've never experienced anything negative about my own 250 from the forum or from anybody I have meet along the way from the WSCC, in fact I'd have struggled to be where I am with my project if it were not from the contributions from everybody here, and I take a positive position to try to help others as others have helped me

  6. Well my crossflow’d Westy has evolved into a zetec Westy. Bogg bros have completed the conversion along with fitting zzr1400 itb’s. All complete bar a mapping session on Tuesday. Hopefully be at blyton the day after!

  8. No worries at all. I'd recommend getting along to procomp or AdamR at CleaR motorsport to get the car set up, it was so stiff that I think a good geo and corner weighting session would go down very well.

  14. Disappointed with all the local cars ( great ones at that , I might add) moving onwards. Sadly the Oxfordshire posse , seem to have found the light on ' Chunky and multi cylinders' than ' light and boost' . Whichever way this ends up, i do hope we see the new cars being built on the site here , as we wouldnt want to loose these members and their contributions . Good luck with the (short) sale time Gary and I guess you will have a garage to rent out now !!

  15. I'll vouch for the quality of this car. Good luck with the sale buddy... stay in the club! You and the car If anyone is reading this and scared by the spec, these are surprisingly easy to drive slowly around town. Certainly no lag monster or scary spikes in torque. Just progressive power that pulls all the way to the redline. Hard.

  20. I have several pairs of jeans with holes burnt through them, it’s the second most annoying thing about having the exhaust on the drivers side. (The first being no more snap crackle and pop from the exhaust while passing militant cyclists!)

I'll leave you at Gairloch at the end of the day, and then I'll join you again the following Tuesday for part of your run down through the Cairngorms to Killin.

  27. My thoughts on the day. Positives: We got a good gathering. The location is quite centrally situated for a north south meet up. Rockingham circuit ran a good day, numbers were reasonably low, so the track was never really crowded? Queuing was minimal.. and usually after a red flag. Good to meet new faces. Negatives: Weather! nowt we can do about it unfortunately. There were probably more red flags than a dry day, but I've done days with more! Friday of a Bank holiday weekend wasn't the best choice.. traffic on the way home got a bit heavy. Will probably get a video up at some point. Last session is looking favourite.

  30. Car looking great. Enjoy your holiday tour. Currently in "the borders" after visiting Outer Hebrides via Skye. Sure you're used to it, but keep your eyes peeled for potholes, some of the roads (irrespective of type) we've been on have been rough as b-----y! I'm amazed only the badge has dropped off the grill on our motorhome! Some great Westfield roads though, look forward to updates.

  34. The ones I've spoken to aren't that different, beyond having more disposable income.Just regular guys that have worked hard building up their own businesses. But they're not necessarily middle aged codgers like me and many more of us. And as a friend with kids in their teens and twenties pointed out to me last night, those age ranges tend to be way more susceptable to other peoples views and opinions than old gits like me.

  35. Indeed. I know we all have our personal thoughts on the price but can I just point out, Westfield are selling cars at these prices. We'd quite like the buyers to become members too, but while no one is suggesting censoring comments, do consider how welcoming posts about the prices would be to those potential new members! I know at least one Sport 250 owner that spoke to me at Stoneleigh, who felt too embarrassed to join the club as he thought everyone would mock him for what he'd spent. Indeed, he actually went as far as to say it had taken a little bit of the shine off it.

  38. Well today , the whole family went to Williams GP factory near Wantage. Santa was kind enough to give us some tickets ( on my card !!) to have a look around at the place and the cars. Now, I dont actually like F1 and find it a bit circus like to me. So, bear that in mind in this thread. We were late , with 2 women giving me directions , it went pear shaped , but luckily they hadnt started the tour. and we miss anything. The site is vast, from the security gate , to negotiating which building on the map we were in and which car park. The grounds were very neatly cut and the place was spotless. We parked up and walked to the conference and museum building. We were met by this hedge outside the building. Walking into the reception, we had a couple of cars in front of us. The one on the ground was the 2016 race car We discussed the cars evolution through time and the current designs and aero changes through the years. The 1.6 litre 4 cylinder engines and all the electrical systems and motors and regulations were touched on. We then went into the hall of fame of all the drivers and their crash helmets and how they had changed with safety in mind through time. From there, we saw a video , with the infamous Murray Walker wailing away and clips of Williams wins and Jacques overtaking manouvres . This , we were told we werent allowed to record as poison drawf aka Bernie Ecclestone had copyright of the film . Sad really............ So, then the doors opened to the museum of cars. Alan Jones cars from the very beginning all the way to the 2016 cars in there. We then headed through the cars and saw the changes from designs with fibre glass and alloy tubs to carbon fibre . NA cars to turbo cars to NA cars and back to turbos. Fuel tanks on either side of the drivers to now being in a cell behind them, to now sitting on loads of batteries. We had a Laguna Touring car there , which interests me more and a fantastic 6R4 , which Patrick Head was lead designer of it . The cars all smell oily and thats because they all ( well mostly) work and get used. The 6 wheeler and some of the others were away for a classic french race , so there were a few empty spots. Interestingly , when Honda pulled out of Williams, as they were chasing Senna to Maclaren, they took every engine away and the car stood with an empty engine bay up until about 6 years ago, when Honda let Williams have an engine and wished them luck to get it running, which they did manage to do. So, we headed into the Honda era of cars ( via Judd ) and the turbo time, which some cars in later years ran over 1300 hp. Seems quite frightening, when there was still no real interest in safety , other than moving the drivers a bit further back to stop them loosing their legs in a front impact. Aero wasnt really catching on and the first carbon parts were appearing. This was mainly wings and later tubs . We then headed into the Senna, Mansell, Prost days. Very much technical changes with carbon appearing on wishbones, extra wings and downforce appearing and NA engines again. Interestingly , we headed into the Coulthard era. He took over from Senna after his death. When he jumped in the car, he found out that in the early days , he was paid £5k a race !! Bear in mind that Senna had commanded a million per race. He wasnt happy and approached Frank Williams and asked for a rise, to which Frank said, you signed the contract at that pay ! Then into the BMW era and these cars looked amazing. We also have a Le Man car , which was raced. After this, we then headed upstairs to the trophy room, which they admitted was a bit dusty currently. They also had some cars in there, so we had a picture with Ayrtons winter test car We then proceeded to have a fabulous lunch laid on, which we all enjoyed and then went back into the trophy area ( via the IT department as we got lost ) and you could sit in the test car and take a picture, which we got Mini TJ to do. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable few hours for all of us and from an engineering perspective was just mind blowing. The finish and detail on the cars and the passion you could see in all the staff was incredible. If you want something for a birthday or christmas, then this is the best 2 1/2 hrs of petrol head heaven going. As for the Westfield and FW link Even the most advanced cars can leak like a crossflow !! Note: I am not an F1 geek, so may have confused a few things, but hopefully its a good insight into Williams

Now that my Cobra Replica build is back in full swing I have been reviewing how I will use my Hobby cars in the future, and it is clear that the Cobra will become the weekend/summer evening road car. This means the Westfield will pretty much be demoted to a track car, and frankly it is too good to just sit in the garage waiting to be used a handful of times a year. So it is time to give it a new home. The car was built in 2011/12 by me and registered in April 2012 after a first time IVA Pass, and has been developed ever since into an extremely powerful track focused road legal car that is very capable in the right hands. It has much more power than an S2000 or Sport 250 Westfield. Oil and filter change on same date. Just under 10,000 miles (less than a 1,000 miles on the turbo’ed engine) The car was recently featured in Complete Kit Car Magazine over two issues. This is a well sorted car that is perfectly happy pootling around town or country lanes. Press the loud pedal and it flies. On track there is not much that can stick with it.   40. Not a good idea to rest your leg against the hot exhaust of your Westy and then do exactly the same thing, on the same spot, on someone elses Westy the next day!
