I've probably paid for 30+ dyno / mapping sessions in my 15 years of modifying my Fiat Coupe 20VT, so I know first hand that the peak power figure from a dyno run has very little bearing on how fast the car feels. Its all about "area under the curve". My Coupe felt fastest when it was delivering about 400bhp - fairly early spool, followed by a huge mid-range, just tailing off at the top end. I've now gone further still and I've peaked at 488bhp. Its still monstrous in the mid-range, but all the excitement is from 5,000rpm through to 7,500rpm. This means that on the rare occasion when I I get to let it off its leash, its utterly ballistic, but for 98% of the time, its just a laggy turbo-nutter Fiat that struggles to keep up with an enthusiastically driven 320D.... I'd love to get the Westy to 185 - 190bhp, but I'd much rather have a 175bhp car that drives nicely and has great throttle response and calm manners I'll check some of the basics, but I'm happy to throw a couple of hundred quid at some proper expertise to get everything sorted properly

  9. Yes, it's as easy as that (provided you use a 5V Arduino). If the MBE uses a common signal ground for its sensors, then it will have a fixed internal pull-up resistor (to 5V) for the coolant sensor, so that the sensor creates a potential divider circuit. So Open circuit will read 5V, short circuit 0V, but all other temperatures read somewhere between these values. Join your Arduino ground to the MBE signal ground circuit and you're good to go. The Arduino input impedance is very high (like 100MOhm) so you shouldn't affect the voltage reading that the MBE gets by sharing the pin.

Martin For class G or H you do not need a handbrake but for our other classes such as C,D,E,F where you can use list 1A,1B OR 1C TYRES you need the handbrake ( we refer to S12 rather than S11 as it does permit cars to run in our road based classes even though if using list 1C tyres they will need to be in mod prods on the day at the event. The car needs to be in a condition that it would pass an MOT. To save some people money we have agreed that the can get a vehicle passport and avoid paying for tax ,mot and insurance if the car is not used on public roads Hope that helps

  11. Unfortunately it’s a quirk of the forum software. There is no setting that would allow the original poster in the thread to reply but prevent everyone else, except for the SSOT. The idea for the section was that instead of a question getting a dozen answers from a dozen different people, only one SSOT member would take responsibility for answering any one question, and provide a definitive answer in so far as that is ever posssible in motorsport. And that random answers from other competitors, which may or may not be accurate, should be excluded, to avoid confusion.
