Following on from my post a few weeks ago where I received some lovely kind words We had all decided that we weren't ready for a dog free house yet. We had tried the local rescue centres but as we have kids they would only rehome a pup with us. So after a few phonecalls and a drive up to oban in the snow we now have this little ball of energy to keep us all on our toes! An 8 week old border collie called Archie. He's already picking fights with much bigger opponents!!

Well today I went for my B+E trailer test having had a 2 hour assessment by an instructor earlier on in the month he had said that I should be fine with going straight for a test and he only recommended another hour lesson to get familiar with the test routes as I am from "out of town", this was quite refreshing to hear, instead of someone trying to sell me however many hours of possibly unnecessary lessons. So, woke up this morning with knots in my stomach from the thought of my driving style being examined and scrutinised.. I've been driving 13 years now so have picked up plenty of bad habits and also have driven pretty much only automatic cars for the last 4 years, so going to do my trailer test in a manual was a little daunting. Started off by carrying the very simple show me/tell me questions (show me how you would test the horn) and then out to the carpark to carryout the manoeuvres; reverse into a bay, uncouple and recouple then a 60 or so minute drive through the city, all the time trying to gauge the examiner for any clues on how I was doing.... I started to get quite worried after 50 or so minutes when he still hadn't opened his clipboard! Back to the test station and a big sigh of relief when I was told that I had passed with no minors. Yipee. one step closer to the goal of going racing next year. All I need now is a nice big covered trailer with a little workbench in.. best get christmas shopping for myself!

So you can transfer from lid to lid. They work very well and have a great range for car to car comms too. Only downside when using with 3 or more sets is bike 1 can talk to bike 2 or bike 3. But bike 2 and bike 3 can't talk to each other. Messages have to be passed via bike 1. But still great value.

Trailer test, what’s one of those? Sometimes being an old git has it’s plus points

Before I retired I drove 40,000 miles a year. Leaving a project meeting at 6pm, with a 4 hour drive home, I would have loved a driverless car, why not? Make a few phone calls, read, sleep, even work. Driving to the Silverstone Classic on a nice sunny day is a different matter, but freedom of choice between the two would be good. Like rockets, the science is easy, it's the engineering that's hard. Does anyone seriously believe that in x years we won’t have safe, reliable, cheap, driverless cars? The x will be sooner than we think. It will work because there is money to be made.

Nope definitely not a replacement just a new member to the fold I can see their point aswell if anything happened to a child with a dog they'd rehomed it would be awful. It's a shame as there were a few that we felt we could have given a good home to.

Fantastic! Theyre not replacements, you can never replace an old friend. They’re just an addition to a growing family! Shame about the rescue dog, I can see where they’re coming from. Though it’s probably as much about lack of resources making them draw the line, as actual concerns.

Worst comes to worst I'll just use my car

The test fee is £115, and three lessons cost me £105 / £35 per hour. But I think I did the bare minimum number of lessons as I already had some towing experience, I used this guy here https://www.jacksdrivingschool.co.uk/ really happy with his instructing, we got on well. He's based in Newton Aycliffe, and did my test in Darlington.

Yes, but the Hobbyweld supplier had the conversion kit, regulator and pipe. There’s no monthly hire on the bottle, just a one off deposit which is refundable at the end.
