  1. Lovely run out in the sun today. Across the moors to Cheddar (still loads of grockles about!), run up the gorge behind a Z4, bit suprised at one point to meet a car and caravan coming down! Over the top of the Mendips to Blagdon, for a pub lunch, then up Burrington Combe and home via Wells. The financial controller took a video on her phone, but didn't turn out to well unfortunately! Farmers really busy harvesting maize, and leaving half the fields on the roads. Think I need to fit some mud flaps. Not spectacular backdrop, but in the wilds of Somerset Home, washed and dried, and tucked up in the garage, ready for next outing. I'd fitted the sidescreens before we went out, certainly makes it more civilised cruising round this time of year, we could even have a conversation! Has highlighted a bit of a rattle that sounds to be coming from behind the dash though. Investigation required tomorrow.

  3. Nice to see you putting some miles on the car and it looks great. I much prefer the side screens. So far this month the weather has been very kind and surprisingly warm. Like you I’m making the most of it and getting out whenever possible. John

  7. Thanks for that Jon, the coast road all the way along there has some lovely views on a good day. Just need the road to reopen through Aller, and it will be easier to head in that direction. Think a run over Exmoor and the north coast may be in order on a sunny day.

  9. Adge, Looks like you've had a good day. Tricia and I did the same trip the day that Malcolm, Dale & I came over to look at your car pre-IVA. You have to get up early to miss the tourists and cyclists on the Gorge and that still leaves the sheep to contend with. A run that Tricia and I enjoy is the A352 from Sherborne down to Charminster then over to Abbotsbury via Martinstown and the Hardy Monument. Then follow the coast road to West Bay then back through the tunnel on the A3066 after Beaminster (with the obligatory drop a gear through the tunnel. On a clear day there are excellent views of Lyme Bay on the coast road. Jon

  13. I don't know why, but when i saw the title of the thread, i thought it was going to be another medical tale of woe, like the Captains; you've been out and about blatting in the cold and damp, without the right clothing on, and now you've got the Mendips. Mind you, there's probably a cream for it!! Great to see you out and about enjoying the car though.

  14. I might have a contact that can knock a small quantity of these up if we get enough interest and supply a bonnet to make the mould. If he is willing to make a batch I will post a thread asking for committed members to gauge interest levels

  17. I would say returning the miss matched pair of shoes Saturday 9:00am morning when the Saturday staff are almost awake would go undetected. Cheep shoes.... about a month back I realised I had left my good shoes at home and was about to go visit a customer. Not wanting to go to town and rush buy more, or drive home , found myself In the charity shop 2 units down. £2.50 later fantastic... dead mans shoes Pre broken in.. fantastic!

  21. They're a very small business. Most of their available time seems to be spent in the workshop. For all the beautiful engineering they do, I rather suspect they regard the carrier pigeon as a dangerously modern form of communication.

  22. Thanks Kevin, it's been a pleasure serving the Essex Area as an AO and also the Club I'm certainly not planning on leaving the club anytime soon or for the forseeable future. I've got a few projects in the pipeline which include finishing a house refurb and also the restoration of two JW4's. I'm also halfway through putting a book together on the history of Johnny Walker's Racing Cars so I'm struggling to find the same time to give to the club that I have in the past. I consider many of the people on this forum to be my friends so I'll still be wasting my spare evenings on here and helping others as best I can.

  25. Anyone else had any howlers. Just had Skoda ( you know, the cheap one in the VAG chain ( think they were trying at pulling mine)) So, our 999cc of sheer power is due a service next month . Its only done 10 k miles. The lady called me said it also needs an air con service. My reply was ' I am in the air con trade, so do you think it needs a service ? ' Skoda girlie ' Er............ no, it wont need one then' . (Thats a great money spinner ) Skoda girlie ' But the car requires an annual service ' Me ' Yes, that is correct, next month' Skoda girlie ' Would you like me to book it in' Me ' Can you tell me the cost for this ?' Skoda girlie ' For an oil change ( 3.5 litres) , oil filter and pollen filter , its £260 ' Me ' hahahahahahahahahahahahaha' Skoda girlie ' er..................' Me ' Thanks for the costs. Can you email this to me please' On another note, when I get the service costs, I have an email saying that I will get a half price service due to the mongs washing my car , when it went in for warranty work, so happy days............But £260 for a noddy car service !! Must be thousands for the big cars...................I used to pay £250 fixed price for our 10 plate Volvo XC60 and that used 8 litres alone.
