  1. Just going through the emoticon list today when I see this for the first time since my retirement... I wonder which Admin could have possibly created and uploaded that emoticon... it's a real mystery, that's for sure. On a completely unrelated note, I was saddened to see that @Stuart Faulkner - Shows & Events Coordinator has developed jaundice and that his weight has ballooned to 40 stone. I really don't know how he fits in or drives his car, but I'm wishing him all the best for a speedy recovery. Happily, Stuart's "nurse" is "looking after" me and my broken arm for the next several weeks, so he'll just have to get another nurse to sort him:

  2. That's the problem the sport 250 has though. The 10k gap doesn't exist. A complete caterham 420 with s pack is around 31k the last time I looked. R pack instead ads another 1k. The sport 250 starting kit price is 26k. There are a few options that are pretty much mandatory. By the time you've finished adding these your up at near 30k or even over it if you get enthusiastic. So the price differential is minimal. I'm not slagging the car or the factory here I'm just a little frustrated as the the potential for the car is huge yet little seems to be exploited by the factory. They seem to not realise that at a 30k price point people are expecting a much more polished product. Not having to deal with p*** poor fitting bodywork or "jig made" diff brackets that don't fit, or the lack of any relevant accurate build manuals or suspension that's not really been designed or developed for the package. I think the sport 250 had the potential not to be the "clumsy caterham" but the more modern contemporary caterham alternative.

  3. In that case, a 620S is circa 610 kg! The point I was getting at though is that with such prestige "halo" models as the Sport 250, they're immediately hobbled to some extent by the cost of the power plant and its ancillary items. Start throwing in the extra costs of the development, that I don't argue, is required and the cost of the car starts ending up in territory that's damned difficult for the factory to inhabit. It's an interesting question, would the factory be better concentrating on a simpler model, or models; a more basic power train, BUT, honing and improving the whole of the car, both for a production point of view and a dynamics point of view, where such costs could be spread over a greater number of very similar, bar options, cars, sold at a lower price, or should they keep pressing on with premium models like the Sport 2000S, Mega S2000 and Sport 250. My heart wants the latter, and accepts that ahem, user input is required in the development. But my head tends to suspect that they might be better if they could invest around a single chassis, single power train and single, bar optional wind screen and aeroscreen set ups etc, body style. With models only differentiated by the options list and perhaps, if possible, some engine tuning packages. Concentrate the money you have on getting one basic body set, right, and to a decent quality, Concemtrate on getting one basic chassis right. Yes, produce a few different spring/damper/ARB packages for touring, fast road, track or whatever. But the point is you're not trying to use limited funds to hone everything from a base level Mazda car to a Sport 250. once you've spent a few years getting your basic formula right again, then maybe consider diversifying...

  5. Forgot to add Team Dynamics print the info in very hard to read dots on the inside rim of the wheel. You need to catch the wheel in the correct light to see them!

  12. Going through Leamington Spa this morning about 1100 eastbound on the A425 Radford Road, at the traffic lights outside my house, blue / black Westfield on a age-related "E" plate, aeroscreen, offside bonnet opening for air cleaner. Driver plus 1, both helmeted. He managed to stall it when the lights changed , which my neighbour and I chuckled at and ribbed him a bit before he restarted and sped quickly away. Hope you stayed dry!

  13. Ian, I've just hidden your address, as Russ said, this area is entirely in the public domain! I've PM'd Robbo the address in the mean time. We can easily un-hide your post if you wish, but please confirm that you're happy to have the address visible, if you want the post restored. Dave

  14. They are 15"x7" rims you can mearsure the et but are probably et23 & if they are ford fittment they will be 108pcd but Mazda is different.

  15. Tyre width and rim diameter are the only numbers affecting tyre fitment. The ET affects fitment of wheel and tyre onto the hub and may impact clearances to arches etc. This tool is very helpful: http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=205&aspect=50&diameter=15&wheelwidth=7.5&offset=24&width2=205&aspect2=60&wheel_size=13&wheel_width=7&offset2=24 Some tyre manufactures will specify a rim width for their tyres. e.g. Toyo R888's 205/50/15 suggest: https://www.toyotires.com/tire/pattern/proxes-r888-dot-competition-tires 5.5 to 7.5 but some have them fitted on an 8" wide wheel!

  17. I saw it at the revival yesterday. I have to say it looks a bit better in the flash than the photos but I was still disappointed by the styling. A bit of a cross between MX5 and GT86. I can't see many TVR DNA elements. Having owned three TVRS and 1 from new I had been following with interest. I think I will wait for now. I spoke with someone at the show that said they had taken more deposits on the day so hopefully it proves a success. I like that it is manual, V8 and fairly light. Disappointed that it has electric power steering though. I think some will be disappointed that no convertible yet. It was good though to see the TVR logo around the revival in lots of places. It will be good if they enter LeMans again too. David

  19. Trying to sit down with my lunch and catch the news. Right now the two main news channels Sky and BBC News are both showing some interview with some over paid poser (previously used word had a different meaning to what I thought) about some world record transfer... This is what makes me angry, millions spent on a single person when it could do so much good else where. Chuffing idiots...

  20. How very dare you - I'm the very epitome of posh, unlike some people in here I can name. I'm so posh that during our local sports day, we have a Chauffeur's Race in which my man does quite well.

  25. So, it seems Total Kit Car this month have reviewed the same car and its absolutely perfect in every sense according to Steve Hole. Really ? Has the factory changed anything before it went out on the road with them or is it just a back scratching exercise for the mag on ' you pay for advertising in our mag, we will give you singing reviews' ? Seems very strange as just seems a selling technique, albeit a very see through one. I guess the real test is owners reviewing what they think and needs to tinker with to get work right and not to potentially same industries that live in each others pockets for genuine reviewing, which Top Gear dont do. So, @AdgeC, get that IVA in the bag and the chap with Steve's lovely car and tell us how you find them.
